LOL is a 2012 American coming of age comedy film directed and co-written by Lisa Azuelos. The film is a remake of the 2008 French film LOL (Laughing Out Loud)®. It stars Miley Cyrus, Demi Moore, Ashley Greene and Adam Sevani. It was filmed in 2010 but released by Lionsgate in the United States on May 4, 2012 as a limited release in only 105 theatres without any promotion. It was released first in theatres in India on February 10, 2012.

Plot

In a world connected by Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, Lola and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola's mom, Anne, accidentally reads her teenage daughter's racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown.

Cast

Music

These are songs that were featured in the film. They are not to be confused with the incidental soundtrack music.

Production

The film began production on July 16, 2010, later finishing filming and beginning post-production on September 14, 2010. It was filmed primarily at Grosse Pointe South High School in the city of Grosse Pointe, a wealthy community on the east side of Detroit, Michigan, and required a year and two weeks of post production before it was completed on November 1, 2011. In January 2012, the first trailer for the film was released, and days later, a poster was designed and printed for it.

On February 10, 2012, the film was released for the first time in India, and later, on March 1, 2012, in Singapore. Later, it was announced that the film would have a limited release on May 4, 2012 in the United States. The film, the announcement went on, would be released as Lola in Brazil, LOL: Laughing Out Loud in Germany, ЛЕТО. ОДНОКЛАССНИКИ. ЛЮБОВЬ (Summer. Classmates. Love) in Russia, LOL: Laugh Out Loud in Singapore, and Casi 18: LOL (Almost 18: LOL; previously titled La Vida de Lola/Lola's Life) in Latin America. Three different trailers were released for the movie: a British trailer, a German trailer, and an American trailer.

LOL is Rated PG-13 for mature thematic content involving teen sexuality and drug and alcohol use, and for language.

Nominations

Miley Cyrus is nominated for Choice Movie Actress: Romance at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards as well as for Favorite Female Movie Star at the 2012 Do Something Awards.

Marketing

Marketing for “LOL” is being handled by studio’s home entertainment division, “Mandate Pictures” not the theatrical marketing team. [1]

Reception

Lionsgate chose to debut the film in only 105 theaters in the United States on May 4, 2012. On its premiere weekend the movie was a box-office failure, generating $46,500, a per screen average of $440.

The film was not screened for press before its release. As of July 2012, Rotten Tomatoes is devoid of a consensus due to the lack of reviews (besides three "Rotten") for the film. Regardless, the film has lingered in the IMDb Bottom 100 since its release, most recently placing at #46.[2] As of July 13, LOL is placed as #49 on the Bottom 100 (with a rating of 2.0)

LOL will be having a release in Australia on July 26 at Village, Hoyts Cinemas and other selected cinemas. As of 2 July 2012, tickets are not yet available to pre-order.
