File:Question mark 1.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Riley Huntley (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Orphan file. SVG version available at File:Question mark alternate.svg. No need to keep  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:02, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The file wasn't an orphan until you made it one (your edit was reverted). As the file description said it is being used "to meet appearance of File:Down Arrow Icon.png, File:Up Arrow Icon.png and File:Sideways Arrow Icon.png." The image is smaller and a different color than File:Question mark alternate.svg. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley talk 00:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Avid-hsl.png (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Jacobolus (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Not discussed in article. Bulwersator (talk) 00:22, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Yes it most certainly is discussed. Here’s the direct quotation “Video editors also use these models. For example, both Avid and Final Cut Pro include color tools based on HSL or a similar geometry for use adjusting the color in video. With the Avid tool shown to the right, users pick a vector by clicking a point within the hue/saturation circle to shift all the colors at some lightness level (shadows, mid-tones, highlights) by that vector.” Cheers. –jacobolus (t) 00:36, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The purpose of the image is to demonstrate how certain kinds of computer software use the HSL and HSV color spaces, an essential part to a comprehensive article about HSL/HSV. It is impossible to adequately describe how computer software uses these spaces without some screenshots, because the subject is inherently visual–spatial. There is no free software I know of which uses the same interfaces as the screenshots used; if you know of any you’re welcome to contribute such images. My guess is after your spend a few hours doing the research you’ll turn up empty handed. These images aren’t in a “gallery” or “table” as that NFG guideline clearly intends to define the words. Your attempt to cram this case into conflict with guidelines that don’t apply is quite disingenuous. The use of these screenshots is entirely within the bounds of fair use (the interfaces involved are being critically analyzed), beyond any doubt. –jacobolus (t) 00:35, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File:Endel Ruberg film(Kivilo) high relief leather technique.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by EmilAnois (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

without critical commentary Bulwersator (talk) 07:49, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article Endel Ruberg introduces in section 2.1 an unconventional leather technique that Ruberg developed. It describes in words how the technique works: "The high relief technique relies on applying a homemade paste to the reverse side of a leather piece for support, and then wrinkling, twisting, squeezing the front side to form three-dimensional shapes." However, art techniques are best described visually rather than by expository narrative. Therefore screenshots from the documentary Ruberg were used for visual clarification. These images depict a concept (an unfamiliar leather art technique) described in the text of the article. EmilAnois 15:12, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article Endel Ruberg introduces in section 3.1 an unconventional watercolour technique that Ruberg developed. It describes in words how the technique works: "The akvarelli külmutustehnika relies on painting outdoors during winter, allowing the cold air to condense and crystallize the watercolour paints as they dry." However, art techniques are best described visually rather than by expository narrative. Therefore a screenshot from the documentary Ruberg was used for visual clarification. File:Hellofalifekanye.ogg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Bruce Campbell (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Not discussed in article Bulwersator (talk) 08:39, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy keep: The nominator is wrong. Sample is extensively discussed in the article. There's an entire section of the article dedicated to the composition. The production of the song s notably unique. Short, fair use samples are common practice in Wikipedia song articles. It seems to me the editor falsely nominates alot of material for deletion here. File:Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya Logo.gif (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by Chamant12 (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

This is a logo, so the own work claim is dubious. Furthermore, it is only used in the Wikipedia talk namespace in an article which has been rejected multiple times at WP:AfC, so fair use isn't applicable. Stefan2 (talk) 16:10, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually what I want is to include this logo on the article I am writing for Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya. As I am new to writing articles in wikipedia, I am learning wikipedia syntax & rules using trial and error method. That is the reason why my article was rejected several times by the administrators. I believe you will help me in this process by further guiding me retaining this logo for the above purpose. (Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya has appointed me as their official person to handle their web related work.)Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chamant12 (talkcontribs) 17:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean that you are writing an article about Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya on behalf of Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya, I think that you carefully need to read the WP:COI policy. --Stefan2 (talk) 19:29, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice. I went through the Conflict of interest article.

1. Subjects require significant coverage in independent reliable sources.
=> Sri lanka Baptist Sangamaya is very new to web although it has been standing out in Sri Lanka for 200 years. As a result There are very few online article which I can demonstrate as online reference(first three references on my article). However I have successfully able to find three individual books written by foreign and local independent, non related, non affiliated authors describing facts about Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya. These three books are available on google books and I have added them under external links.
=> Other inline citations I have marked are links to web pages on sites of organizations of which Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya is a member of. As the content on my writing describes the same fact (of Sangamaya's membership) I believe these links are worth more than just directory listings. Further as these sites are independent sites of organizations themselves, I believe my referencing is reliable, noteworthy and acceptable under wikipedia policies.

2. Your role is to inform and reference, not promote or sell.
=> As it is about a religious organization, it is describing religious activities and facts about that denomination in Sri Lanka.
=> Further as it is a nonprofit organization, it is not expecting to sell anything neither through its own official site nor through wikipedia.
=> I have tried my best to avoid promoting Christianity or the Baptist Denomination in my article. However if you are still finding any controversy about this matter in my article, I am requesting your kind help on pointing out the specific sentence or phrase that needs to be modified to rectify this issue.

3. Write without bias, as if you don't work for the company or personally know the subject.
=> As a matter of fact, I am a free lance web developer and I only developed the web site for Sri Lanka Baptist Sangamaya.
=> The site I developed for them was done for charity.
=> I have no bias on them of what so ever on my article and I believe that I will maintain this in future as well.

4. State facts and statistics, don't be vague or general.
=> Facts are referenced from the different references I have used and are not vague other than that nobody can say exactly the actual number of believer belonging to a Christian denomination at a given moment.

5. Take time to get sources and policy right and your content will last.
=> As discussed above.

6. Be transparent about your conflict of interest
=> I believe I have made myself transparent at this moment.

7. Get neutral, uninvolved, disinterested editors to review your content
=> I believe neutral, uninvolved, disinterested editors will help me once my article becomes visible to them.

Thanks

File:Sharjah-Stamp-1970-1-rl Rambler.jpg (delete | talk | history | links | logs) – uploaded by CZmarlin (notify | contribs | uploads | upload log).

Delete: This 1970 stamps is copyright for 50 years per commons:Template:PD-United Arab Emirates stamp. The image fails WP:NFC#Images #3 and WP:NFCC#8 for both uses. There is no commentary of any kind but is used as decoration in Sharjah (emirate) and there is a main article Postage stamps and postal history of Sharjah where it might have a chance of complying with WP:NFCC. The 2nd use in AMC Cavalier has no WP:FURG. ww2censor (talk) 22:59, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Per your suggestion, the image (and the referenced explanation about non-Sharjah subjects in their stamps) is now in the more appropriate main article: "Postage stamps and postal history of Sharjah" article. Thank you for your explanation about the proper use of this image, as well as for its correct placement in WP articles! CZmarlin (talk) 00:05, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I suggested that Postage stamps and postal history of Sharjah might have a chance of complying with NFCC however, adding the image to this article still fails NFCC #1 because there are other stamps that can illustrate the article and there is really nothing so special about this image other than decorating the article. It fails #8 because the claimed purpose for use in the rationale can be clearly explained by prose making the use of a non-free image unnecessary to increase the reader's understanding of the topic. ww2censor (talk) 04:32, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
