india-forums.com

Re your comments on Indian TV articles in general (at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bigg Boss 6 (2nd nomination) and elsewhere), perhaps blacklisting links to some of the more popular but utterly non-reliable user forum/social networking sites would somewhat stem the tide of poorly sourced fancruft and copyvios. It's not uncommon, for example, for users to copy and paste huge chunks of text from india-forums.com into Wikipedia articles and include a link to same, or alternatively for them to add apparently original wikitext but supported by inline references to india-forums.com. If the blacklist were to automatically reject such submissions, one of three things might happen:

  1. The user might simply give up and go away. Hooray; we don't need to deal with the copyvios and unsourced or poorly sourced material in this case.
  2. The user might strip the links to india-forums.com, leaving only the text, and resubmit the edit. This doesn't help us in the case of copyvios, but it at least makes it a bit easier to identify and then tag and/or revert unsourced material.
  3. The user might get a clue and find better sources for the material they want to post.

Partly for these reasons I've proposed a new blacklist entry at MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist#india-forums.com. Feel free to comment. —Psychonaut (talk) 07:58, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is a nice idea. I suppose that adding a blacklisted link does not allow you to save the edit. But does it send some kinda alert somewhere? Do we get some notification? Or do we simply use this search option? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 08:53, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, will some bot automatically remove these links? Or should we start manually doing that? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 09:01, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you try to submit any edit which contains a link to a site on the blacklist, it will be rejected with a message that explains the problem. (I won't reproduce the message here because it's too long; you can see it yourself if you go to your sandbox and try to add an external link to a blacklisted site, such as srebrenica-genocide.blogspot.com.) I don't think there is any log kept of attempts to add blacklisted sites. Also, the blacklist extension does not automatically remove existing links to blacklisted sites; it only prevents people from adding links in the future. Existing links to blacklisted sites need to be removed manually on a case-by-case basis. —Psychonaut (talk) 09:35, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I see! Will work on removing all links after i am back from break. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 11:54, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But don't just remove the links to the forum posts; please also remove any questionable information for which such posts were serving as a reference, particularly in biographies of living persons. Zero information is preferable to misleading or false information. Personally I'd wait until the site's blacklisting is approved before removing any links, since in my experience someone usually tries to add the reference back again. —Psychonaut (talk) 12:15, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
India-forums.com has now been added to the spam blacklist so you and I and anyone else who wishes can begin cleanup of the existing links. —Psychonaut (talk) 09:05, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay! Will start working on them; not like a mission, but slowly and steadily. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:37, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

References made to the articles posted on India-forums.com by their reporters are also banned? So will the same be happening for other forum/fan/"news" sites such as Tellychakkar.com and Rangmunch.tv etc. That will probably lead to a lot of reduction in content on the TV pages if that's the case, because other reliable sources are few and far between. (I tended to avoid them normally anyway) Coolcool2012(talk to me) 09:27, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any such section at India-forum that is controlled by editors? Even if there was one, that has hardly been used in references over here. Most of the contributions came from user's inputs to the forums. Tellychakkar.com's articles seems good as of now. Just as good as TOI's. (That's not a compliment to Tellychakkar.) Hence i dont find it necessary to get it blacklisted. Of course, if anyone comes across a reference that links to a forum section of this website, it should be removed. Just like how http://answers.yahoo.com/ is not used a Reliable Source, but http://news.yahoo.com/ is even though both are in Yahoo! domain.
I have used Tellychakkar many times. But i haven't come across Rangmunch.tv yet. In case you have your doubts regarding both sources, you can raise it at WP:RSN. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 10:07, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clearing that up. It's mostly rumours and useless articles anyway on there. Will do, Coolcool2012(talk to me) 12:45, 8 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vidya Balan

Hi Dharmadhyaksha. Thank you for the constructive ideas that you put forward on the Vidya Balan nomination page. They were of great help indeed. However, some of the ideas were a bit controversial (like praising Rani Mukerji and mentioning Balan's appearances in reality shows), and hence I didn't mention them. Having said that, I thank you for pointing such points out. Personally, I like both Mukerji and Balan, but I can't edit an article based on personal opinions. (Right?) Anyway, I hope you didn't take my objections the wrong way. I hope we can collaborate on an article soon. Cheers. --S.M.A.R.O.J.I.T (talk) 05:09, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fun seeing old stuff

One of the Tribune pages that you added also has news on a young Purab Kohli and the all-girl band Sansara! It was fun looking at those news bits, it seems not too long ago!--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:05, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah! Lucky to find that page. Added that to his biography also. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 09:11, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Blacklisted references

When removing <ref>s using blacklisted links, as you did in this edit, please be sure not to leave orphaned refs behind (e.g. these). An easy way to check is to see if the page ends up in the hidden category Category:Pages with broken reference names after your edit. Thanks! Anomie 11:44, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay! Must have missed it. Thanks for the notice. Will check from next time.
But i don't think looking in that category is of any help. It has like thousands of pages already in it.
And i didn't know you are the owner of User:AnomieBOT. He is brilliant. Good job! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 11:57, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Rather than looking in the category itself, look at the bottom of the page to see if the category shows up. You might need to enable the "Show hidden categories" preference in the Appearance tab in Special:Preferences to see it, though.
And thanks! Anomie 17:21, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like you missed some again: [1] Anomie 20:53, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your AFDs

You placed CSD tags on a couple of them... Do you just want them closed so the other consolidated one can continue? Stalwart111 05:38, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes! That's what i intended. But as it was done quite quickly before sorting happened and all, i thought that they can simply be deleted. I have also changed the AFD tags on those respective articles. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:43, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done - both have been non-admin closed so that the consolidated AFD can continue. An admin may come along and actually delete them but I did link to your consolidated one in my summary. Hope this is okay. Stalwart111 05:48, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine too. Thanks! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:53, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Fakta Ladh Mhana, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Gunpoint (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, Dharmadhyaksha. You have new messages at Talk:Murugan#Merge_Kartikay.

I had raised this long back in 2008. But no support, so did not merge. Actually, the current Murugan article covers all about the pan-Indian Kartikkeya as well as the Tamil Murugan. We can move the article Murugan to Kartikkeya, and at Murugan, create a new article about the Tamil Murugan, before his identification with the Sanskrit Kartikkeya-Skanda. Don't know what a parser function exactly means. But i suppose this new sign is okay. §§dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 05:57, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, your new sig looks good. A parser function is those bits of code like {{#if: ... }}; see details at Help:Magic words. Anomie 12:50, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

59th NFA

There is nothing I can do with citation for 59th NFA for that matter. Unless you tell me the way to deal with copyright issues, I'm not gonna add those. - Vivvt • (Talk) 12:43, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
