The 2013 World Darts Championship is the 20th World Championship organised by the Professional Darts Corporation since it separated from the British Darts Organisation.

The event started on 14 December 2012 and will finish on 1 January 2013. It it being held at the Alexandra Palace, London, England.[1]

Adrian Lewis is the defending champion having won the last two editions of the tournament.[2].

Format and qualifiers

The televised stages features 72 players. The top 32 players in the PDC Order of Merit on 26 November 2012 are seeded for the tournament.[3] They were joined by the 16 highest non-qualified players from the Pro Tour Order of Merit, based on the 33 events played on the PDC Pro Tour.

These 48 players are joined by two PDPA qualifiers (as determined at a PDPA Qualifying event held in Barnsley on 26 November 2012), the highest ranked non-qualified player on the PDC Youth Tour Order of Merit, and 21 international players: the 4 highest names in the European Order of Merit not already qualified, and 17 further international qualifiers to be determined by the PDC and PDPA.[3]

Some of the international players, such as the four from the European Order of Merit, and the top American and Australian players are entered straight into the first round, while others, having won qualifying events in their countries, are entered into the preliminary round.

Prize money

The 2013 World Championship features a prize fund of £1,000,000 – the same as in the previous three years.

The draw for the Round of 64 took place on 4 December 2012, the preliminary round pairings were published on 26 November 2012.[21][22]
