The 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup is an international association football tournament will be held in Brazil in 2013, as a prelude to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.[2] The tournament is expected to be held from 15 to 30 June 2013. Brazil are the defending champions.
As the competition partially overlaps with the fourth round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification in Asian zone, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) asked FIFA to consider a change of date.[3] However, the AFC decided that the match day will be adjusted only for Japan, the representative of AFC for the Confederations Cup.[4]
Uruguay, Italy and Spain will have the opportunity to become the third team (after Argentina and France) to win all three major FIFA tournaments: the World Cup, the Olympic football competition and the Confederations Cup.

Draw
The draw for the competition was held at the Palácio das Convenções in the Anhembi Convention Center in São Paulo, Brazil on 1 December, 2012.[7][8]
Teams from the same confederation are not drawn into the same group, therefore one team from UEFA and one team from CONMEBOL will be drawn in each group. Brazil and Spain have been automatically assigned respectively as A1 and B1, and therefore Italy and Uruguay will be assigned respectively to Group A and Group B.[9]
Match ball
The official match ball for the Cup was unveiled during the draw for the competition. It is named "Cafusa", a portmanteau of the words "Carnaval" (Carnival), "Futebol" (Football) and "Samba".[10] To officially introduce the ball, Brazilian ex-captain Cafu was invited.[10]

The latter two events will provide the first two qualifiers for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013. And while that competition and the FIFA World Cup the country will organise 12 months later may seem a long way off, it is sure to come into sharper focus in July, when the Preliminary Draw for Brazil 2014 takes place in Rio de Janeiro.
