Talkback

Hello, Ryan Vesey. You have new messages at Tazerdadog's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

ITNs

Sure! If you feel you deserve ITN credit for work you did, just let me know. There's no "required minimum" or anything; simply, if you feel you deserve something just let me know. (It's always hard as an admin to look at the history and determine who did what). Also, you can use the template yourself (see User_talk:Medeis#ITN_for_Hugo Chávez).

Commons upload .js

Hi, your "Old Upload" script at Commons is great. I'm not slick with code. Is there a way to get the link to go to [1] instead, to avoid that block of text at the top? That would be amazing. Thanks. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 03:41, 8 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ignore, this was taken care of. – Kerαunoςcopiagalaxies 06:15, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have a problem with my edits Gary Fisher and Chingrish. I don't see you having edited the articles before, so I can only assume that you are following my edits; for what reason I don't know, but know that I don't appreciate people following my edits, and then bitching "behind my back" (so-to-speak); it is really not nice behaviour to engage in. So let's discuss this issue in a civil way, so we can nip any potential problems in the bud right now.

I have always been a prolific editor on our projects, and one of the things I have always done is uploading of media to Commons. This include media for subjects which aren't yet on Commons, or media which improves our coverage of subjects on Commons. Quite often, we have images on our articles here on English Wikipedia, which for lack of a better word, aren't that great. There is nothing written anywhere on this project that says that once an image is in an article that it must stay there for eternity and a day. If better images, in terms of quality, or scope, come along, then we use them. This is called improving the project.

When a see new images being introduced into our articles, the first thing you do is ask yourself, "is this image an improvement over a previous used image?" If so, you leave it, and say to yourself "How great is that, someone has spent some time in finding this image, and has just increased the quality of this article, this is what a collaborative project is all about."

Now, if you disagree with the addition of photos to an article, then there are several options available to you.

The first option; if the image is so bad that it is not an improvement to an article, then you can remove it, and the person wishing to insert it can start a discussion on the talk page as per WP:BRD; such removal of images are usually done by editors who have edited the article, or have it on their watchlist; given that you haven't edited the articles before, so it is 99% certain you don't have them on your watchlist, it could be seen as somewhat tedious and inappropriate for you to do this in this instance.

The second option; if the image is borderline, and you don't think it improves the article, or are not sure, then you can start a discussion on the talk page. And the issue can be discussed by interested parties. You don't leave messages like this to others.

But OK, you have an issue with these two images, so let's discuss this here like civilised adults -- I see you are 19, so even though you can't legally drink in your country, I won't hold that against you ;)

Can you please explain what your objections are with this change? I will explain why the image I have replaced it with is an improvement, and I welcome your explanation of why it is not an improvement.

  1. The old image is what one could call a "holiday snap" (if you know what I mean) or perhaps "Here I am with a celebrity snap" is a more apt description, it is cropped with other person's body parts in the way.
  2. The old image is out-of-focus.
  3. The new image is a photo is part of a number of photos that the photographer took of the subject in a candid moment -- a glance of their photos shows that they have a knack for capturing different aspects of life in San Francisco, with many notable people being willing subjects for his photography.
  4. The new image is of higher quality than the old photo
  5. The new image is more aesthetically pleasing that the old image, even if it is in b&w (there is no requirement for colour photos to be used), and I am sure the subject would be happy with how he is presented in these photographs.

So can you please tell me what the problem with this image being inserted in the article is? Let's discuss this image first, then we can discuss the other image, agreed?

Hi Ryan, given that you are active, and you haven't yet responded to this, I take it there is no issue with the photos, and that your comments were simply snarky bitching to another editor about myself. Given this I will now feel free to continue with User:Russavia/Agenda, and I assume that you will not repeat such things in the future, for it doesn't make for a nice environment for one to be editing in; particularly when they simply want to get things done without all of the b/s that often occurs on this project. Have a nice day, and happy editing. Russavia (talk) 19:08, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I still take issue with your edits, but don't care to take the time to write out a reply at this time. I might get around to it. I really don't like you, so I might not. Essentially, it doesn't matter what the difference is between two photos. It's bad form to aggressively replace images with ones you uploaded yourself. I'll also note that you chose the image to discuss here where your change was more correct, rather than the Chingrish one where it was clearly in error. Ryan Vesey 19:16, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
