WikiProject Wikify April Drive
Hi there! I thought you might be interested in WikiProject Wikify's April Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive. We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by over 500 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive awards for their contributions. If you have a spare moment, please join and wikify an article or tell your friends. Thanks!

Your use of multiple Wikipedia accounts
Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account, which contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AutomaticStrikeout, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and admit to it now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Hello Ryan Vesey. I think we've come to a very bad start. Your concerns raised were both fully addressed here and here. I have found your Hound page quite disturbing, and I while I condone what you're doing, I am not quite sure what your objectives are, and how it'll make wikipedia a better place. I look forward to discussing this issues with you here or in another setting, but I hardly think it deserves the amazing attention and dedication you're providing it. Perhaps we could bring more outside editors to the discussion. Let me know your thoughts, and I hope this lowers the tension between us at least a bit. Regards, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 13:09, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- I'll start off by admitting that I mishandled this entire situation from the very beginning. Rather than going to Ironholds, I should have contacted you as soon as I saw some issues with some of the reviews. I'll leave all my notes about Doncram's articles at the AfC page. I'll be busy for a few more hours, but wanted to let you know that I've seen your post and will be replying soon. Ryan Vesey 16:14, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll wait for your comments. I'm sorry it has taken the road it did, so I hope we can leave what we said in the past and move forward in a positive and enriching manner. Part of this has been a consequence of my relative isolation with regards to general discussions, which I am trying to revert now. Anyway, I look forward to any developments. Cheers, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 16:40, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- So, I'll begin by pointing out one aspect of the issue with Doncram. One of the many issues leading to the ArbCom case was the fact that Doncram focused on the creation of large numbers of articles to the detriment of the quality of those articles. One solution created to combat this was that Doncram had to submit all of his articles through AfC. This appears to be working for the most part on his end, since his articles appear to be of a higher quality (he knows that his articles need to reach a level of acceptance). I noticed that you were reviewing a large number of his articles, and spot checking some, I felt that articles were being passed in a manner that allowed Doncram to worry about nothing other than proving notability. Really, there should be a notice on the articles he submits explaining the issue to reviewers. In any case, I happened to look at some of the articles you created yourself and I had some concerns with the quality of the articles that I raised on Ironholds' talk page. I'll note that I didn't intend for this to be an attack on you. I have a very high, probably abnormally high, bar for who I believe should have the autopatrolled flag and have asked Ironholds to remove the flags of editors before. In fact, I requested its removal from my own account around the same time as I noted it on yours. My continued look into your edits came when I felt that you responded in a confrontational manner. I will admit that I am, at least periodically, checking your edits now; however, I have no intention of hounding you. I understand that in some aspect, having an editor follow your edits can be discomforting, but I do so not in the intention of inhibiting your ability to edit. Instead, I hope that a) I can help improve the encyclopedia and b) I can use the list at User:Ryan Vesey/Focusandlearn to help point out some issues and reshape your editing in the future. If in a few weeks, I no longer see issues that need fixing like the fix I made here or errors in speedy deletion tagging, I have zero intention of bringing the page to another venue and will have it deleted. If some of the errors persist, I hope to discuss them with you and see if you agree that they are errors. The only intention I have of bringing this to another venue is if I see that errors persist and you do not think that they are errors. In that case, I'd consider opening an RfC/U. The long term goal here is not a sanction, it is to find a way to resolve this issue without one. In any case I encourage you to watchlist the page or check it from time to time. If at any time you see an error and are not sure why I considered it an error, leave me a note and I'll help explain it. I will leave one note. In general, I might call an edit that was an improvement to an article an error if a tag was removed from the article as a result, especially if this was done in the course of a drive. This, for example, was an improvement; however, important concepts of the article remained underlinked after you edited the article. Since the tag was removed, it is unlikely to get fixed. On another note, this editorial I wrote has some good advice for Wikification. Some of it is no longer relevant because of steps we took to deprecate {{Wikify}} in favor of more specific templates, but it could still provide some use. Ryan Vesey 04:04, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you very much Ryan. I will look into that list. I found your editorial very useful. Could you explain to me how the default sort works? FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 13:58, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yep. So when articles are categorized, they are categorized based on the article title. Without a sort key, articles on people would be incorrectly categorized by their first names and articles beginning with determiners would be incorrectly handled by those. There are a couple ways of resolving this. First, defaultsort can be used to create the sort key used by all categories. This makes William Orr (trade unionist) appear under O in Category:Australian trade unionists and The New York Times appear under N in Category:Daily newspapers. Sometimes, an article needs to be sorted differently in one specific, usually this occurs when an article needs to appear at the front of a category, for example, NYT is placed into Category:New York Times like this [[Category:The New York Times| ]] The pipe creates a sortkey for a specific category. The same is true for Elvis Presley in his own category. Ryan Vesey 18:28, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you. And could you give me examples of its correct usage (in particular note individuals vs everything else)? Also, sorry about distorting the numbered lists in your page dedicated to me. I tried to discuss some issues with you, hope you understand. Cheers, FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 18:37, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- How were you able to remove that Performance sub-heading? FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 21:05, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
- There was a template parameter
|perfhide=
which when set to Y hid the section. In regards to your last question, are you asking about correct usage of defaultsort? I'm going to remove the numbering on the page anyways and replace it with bullet points. I'll get back to you on your comments there sometime today. Ryan Vesey 21:28, 5 April 2013 (UTC)- Ok. Yes specific examples of how to place one. Ok, I will be logging out soon but I might be back tomorrow at some point. There's no rush. FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 22:03, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

- Thank you, I'll check a few of the Wikifications since I've historically been active in the area, just to give you some advice, otherwise I'll get around to addressing the questions you left at the page I dedicated to you, then I'll have it deleted. In regards to your second question, I am in fact a creationist. I haven't actually seen a viewpoint that specifically documents what I believe, but it is essentially that Darwin was correct about a lot of things. I believe that God created a large number of species, and that number of species has increased through natural selection, so rather than one evolutionary tree, I see many. Sigh, people don't value my work here as much, no matter how hard I try! Like, people ignore my good faith edits, but don't ignore the others... It should be the other way around though... All editors should look at my good work too, not just overlooking it over the taxobox edits.:(--Mishae (talk) 05:17, 9 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Ryan, it was kind of you to help the editor with the recreation of the article. But, honestly, do you really think it satisfies WP:GNG? I don't see any evidence of significant in-depth coverage of the fellow by secondary sources. He appears to be someone who won a lot of awards when he was young, became a teacher, and occasionally performs locally. I don't even see, for example, a review of the series of recitals he gave in Los Angeles of the Beethoven sonatas. Perhaps the article could be improved if it had more major secondary sources attesting to his accomplishments. The NYT, for example, is only a passing mention.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:15, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think he is notable, but I wish the article hadn't been moved so quickly. The three mentions in the New York Times are enough for me. Two are only passing mentions, but one devotes two paragraphs. Via highbeam, I found him in the Washington Post as well. In addition, I believe he meets criteria 9, "Has won or placed in a major music competition", in WP:MUSICBIO. I can find a million pages making the statement that Newsday called him "the first important Israeli pianist to come along in years", but I can't find it from Newsday itself. Ryan Vesey 00:18, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- Of course, MUSICBIO can't trump GNG, but I like the Washington Post article you linked to above. I missed the one NYT article that was more in depth (even though it was when he was 20); my bad. I think I'll just leave it in your capable hands.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:04, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello,
You said you might look into that template to fix it. Could you do that? Talk:Notability shows that the article was TAFI on April 5 [Not the case] and ought not to be showing the second line either. Also, the date ought to have the year, since it is likely TAFI will run into more than 1 year.
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:42, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I don't think it's a problem with the template; I think that filling in some of the parameters for the template on Talk:Notability (date, page, oldid1, and oldid2) might fix it. The Anonymouse (talk | contribs) 17:58, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
- The problem is that in some of the cases, like Notability, the article was TAFI for an exceptionally long period of time with almost no result [Due to the project itself being in deep freeze]. Which is why, it were better to display no date or time on this article than show one week and April 5. 117.99.182.239 (talk) 17:25, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

Slo mo edit "war" and 3O request
Hi. I need a judgment call about what to do concerning an editor who has focused on one word in an article...and I'm asking you about it because you were the editor who opened the "redshirt" topic on the Johnny Manziel talk page last December. Through your talk page contribution, I realized that the redshirt reference was inadvertently removed when the College Career section got a major edit. I know that I was smart-alecky in my response to you (sorry) which belied my appreciation for your involvement.
Right now, it seems like a slow-motion arm wrestling match between me and Jonsnowman over the use of "redshirt" in the article. It's not 3RR, and this disagreement didn't seem right for the dispute resolution page, but I think it does warrant a third opinion.
I've stated my opinion on the talk page and requested via the Edit Summary for Jonsnowman to join the discussion, but he (I'm assuming "he") only expresses himself through the Edit Summary. He marks the edits as m, which doesn't seem quite right, and now it seems he's getting personal and writing comments directly to me in the Edit Summary instead of the talk page. What can be done to create consensus when it seems like my opinion against his?
Could you check it out and tell me if I just need to chill, or help me with a next step in the process? I'd appreciate it. C'ya! -- BroJohnE (talk) 05:10, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
- He's never used a talk page before, so it's possible that he isn't aware of it's existence or that a discussion is occurring there. I left a note on his talk page pointing him to the discussion. I'm going to leave his version in place for now, but if he doesn't join the discussion within ~24 hours, I'll restore what was previously there. If he restores his content again without engaging in discussion, I'll leave him a more stern warning, and if he continues to refuse to discuss, I'll seek assistance from an administrator, but as I said, I don't think it will come to that, because I'm assuming he wasn't using the talk page due to his unawareness of its existence. Hello Ryan,
Based on my previous interactions with you, I am slightly surpised at the comments you made at the AN3. Could you please explain to me how the actions concerned looked like "ganging up" to you? I hope you'll clarify this adequately.

Did it come through?
Did the reply to your question that you asked me yesterday or the day before come through? My email has been acting strangely and I figured it easier to ask you on-wiki than to try to send another email. Thanks. --Go Phightins! 19:12, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Wikify
Hey, Ryan. Hope you're doing ok...haven't seen you around the past few days. Anyways, I've been looking at some of Captain Assassin's edits for the current drive, and quite a few of them seemed under par. Perhaps you'd be kind enough to have a look and tell me your thoughts? Cheers and have a nice weekend! Actually, don't worry. I think he got the point, at least he says he did. Good luck with your exams! FoCuSandLeArN (talk) 23:20, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I forgot my password to Regushee, so now I have to rename myself Regashee and keep track of both. I tried to copy my content from Regushee to Regashee, but apparantely that is frowned upon. I realised that Fauna Europaea site have been updated as of April 9, 2013. Should I go and change the date and version to any of the articles that used Fauna Europaea as a primary source (mine articles will be an example)?--Mishae (talk) 23:00, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the Suggestion
I know it has been a while but I wanted to thank you for your suggestion in regard to assignments for my students. I have been trying to integrate Wikipedia into my classes more often but there is an astounding amount of resistance to it amongst my colleagues. They simply don't understand the true nature of Wikipedia. It is unfortunate but I intend to keep trying. Michael Cockrell (talk) 01:17, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
You are a Golden Editor!
Good as gold! | |
Hi Ryan. I don't know if you realize this or not, but I am very grateful for the fact that I met you. I don't recall how it happened, but you have been a big help to me during my time here at Wikipedia. On multiple occasion, I have depended on your technical abilities to assist me with some kind of problem. You helped me found the Umpires Task Force, you've been a pleasure to talk to and you are certainly one of my best wiki-friends. So what if your no-nonsense mentality has ruffled a few feathers from time to time? We would be better served to have more people like you around here. You, sir, are a Golden Editor! IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
