Hi Jim- congratulations on your main page appearance today; I'd completely forgotten that I was the one to find that image! I've recently taken Nauru Reed Warbler to good article status, and I was wondering if it's something you'd be up for collaborating on for the push to FA status. The description I was citing was a little technical for me, so I may have missed important details, and I couldn't find any information about the switch from Calamoherpe to Acrocephalus; if you have any literature on the genus, that would be super helpful. Any other pointers you have about things that need to be fixed would, of course, be welcome. (I was also unable to access the bottom two citations here, which may be useful.) J Milburn (talk) 19:33, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I found a paper copy of the New Scientist ref; it didn't even mention the species. I got the Notornis ref. It was Proceedings of the Melanesian Avifauna Conservation Workshop and Oceania I couldn't find. J Milburn (talk) 20:33, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The description I'm citing can be accessed on Google Books- I'm no ornithologist, and so the article would certainly benefit from someone like you taking a look and expanding where appropriate, if you have the time. J Milburn (talk) 09:50, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
At the very least, we now have a source saying that Calamoherpes is a synonym of Acrocephalus; I've not been able to find any information on the issue. If you can't find anything, I may email a specialist or two, as they'll probably know the paper in question. J Milburn (talk) 10:57, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your efforts; I'll do my best to find some time to take a good look at this all soon. J Milburn (talk) 10:21, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion of Srinivasan Krishnamurthy

Please explain how the bio of an Associate Professor which asserts notable published research can be eligible for speedy deletion under A7. Maybe PROD or AFD, but my understanding is that either the academic title or the assertion of notable research indicates enough importance that A7 does not apply. I was monitoring new articles and removed the A7 from this article. Do I need to recalibrate my understanding of the criterion? Your deletion comment was "unsourced biography of a living person"; that is a reason for PROD, not speedy. —teb728 t c 07:22, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don’t understand your reply. It seems to me you are applying AFD standards to speedy deletion. Unless I am mistaken:
  • Significance needs only to be credibly asserted under A7, but notability needs to be verifiably demonstrated at AFD.
  • An academic title assures significance under A7 but not necessarily notability under PROF;
  • To use your example, if a biography of Einstein said only “he wrote some important papers in 1905 and 1915” or “he won a prize in 1921” or “he became a professor at Karl-Ferdinand University in Prague”, it should not be deleted under A7.
Am I wrong? Significantly, at AFD the author and other editors have a week to correct deficiencies, but for speedy deletion he has little time. Also the nominator and other editors are supposed to look for sources at AFD. I think those differences are among the reasons why the standards for speed deletion are so restrictive.
I have no doubt that the article is an autobiography, but that is discouraged, not forbidden. The lack of neutrality that you cite is so slight I totally overlooked it. As I recall it concerns the acceptance of his research, which would be verified (or not) when sources were provided (as they would have to be to be kept at AFD). —teb728 t c 10:25, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Lions4Life Page

Hi there I would like to put up a page about a local TV show, Lions4Life. I did so already, but it was deleted as I tried to move the page from "Lions 4 Life" to "Lions4Life". Please can you reload the deleted page or allow me to make a new one without it being deleted.

Thank yoU!

Nickybeale (talk) 10:33, 22 March 2013 (UTC) Thanks I will make the changes and get more notable sources and then repost it![reply]

Common Starling

Not as much interest in Common Starling as we would have liked. No opposition and no support so far, and only two comments. It looks as if the candidacy might be rejected through lack of interest. You are always very good at reviewing other people's nominations. I don't do so much but I did make comments on two others thinking it might kindle interest in ours. However I was put off from reviewing FACs by this message from SandyGeorgia a couple of months ago. If Common Starling does fail we can always try again later, but one's interests move on to other subjects and attending to the FAC seems less attractive. Deletion of Shri News

Hey, I am unable to understand why you have deleted my article, the article was quite neutral, there are several other articles on Wikipedia about various other organizations, like Aaj Tak, ABP News etc. Please give reasons, and let me know how I can write an article on the channel. Hi, Jim,Could you please restore the page I was developing. The informations were collected from blogs and web pages but there are number of books published on this content; those references I could have mentioned if proper time was permitted to me.Once a similar page was deleted , does not necessarily justify further deletion.

I hope I can justify my point. There may other editors as well who can judge it.Rnibaraj (talk) 18:11, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Billy Van page

I just put in over an hour of my time creating that page; why was it deleted? I read the explanation of it being "unambiguously promotional" but strongly disagree.

Deletion of George Komsky Please help me restore his page

Hello Jim,

I am sorry to bother you, but I strongly feel the article George Komsky which you reviewed and deleted was not a G12 copyright violation. If you check the artist's webpage you will see that there are differences between the biography there and the wikipedia page.

http://www.georgekomsky.com/biography-of-george-komsky

I would deeply appreciate it if you would reconsider your deletion. George is my client, and my company Kultura PR is a reputable company: http://www.kulturapr.com

George currently tours with Grammy award winner Chris Botti and he is a public figure, as any google search will bring up videos and articles about him. Most importantly, the information is 100% accurate and not in violation of any copyright. As a professional I would never do such a thing.

If there is anything you could recommend for me to do differently to clear up the problem, I will gladly make all necessary changes.

Thank you,

Human Factors Lab

Hello, I'm new to wiki. I tried to recreate a page for the band human factors lab. Their precious page had been maliciously attacked by ex band members and was taken down do to "notability". If you look at the content provided its obvious they meet the notability and all other guidelines for wiki I noticed you deleted the page I just made. Could you please undelete it, or jet me know what changes need to be made to prevent

Hello. You deleted the page for the band Human Factors Lab. Was this done by mistake? What can be done to reinstate it and prevent future deletion. Please email at Scott@scott-Dunbar.com

Thanks for your reply. As I said I'm new to wiki. I'm sure sure if the exact format needed however I do feel that some of the information provided such as major international tours and album releases as well as current studio work with Grammy winning producers. Members if nine Inch nails and Marilyn Manson are just a few things that show human factors lab meets notability guidelines. These things can also be shown by sources. I'm just not sure how to do it. Is there a way to create the page in the right first instead of just deleting it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.87.123.7 (talk) 07:14, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Association to Invest in the USA

To Whom It May Concern, My name is Mirinda James. I am writing a Wikipedia article on a reputable and legitimate non-for-profit organization call the Association to Invest in the USA (IIUSA). My article has been repeatedly deleted for the alleged purposes of "unambiguous advertising and promotion" and "no indication of importance". Upon doing a quick Google search, one can discover that IIUSA is a legitimate organization. As you might imagine, I am frustrated over getting my article deleted several times. I am seeking direct communication with the person deleting my article. My article is in no way a promotional advertisement. I have written pure facts about the organization. Also, claiming that the organization has "no indication of importance" is simply false. Please communicate with me on this issue so as to get it resolved. I would appreciate you assistance in this regard. Caprailseven (talk) 14:28, 27 March 2013 (UTC) Caprailsevel (ie. Mirinda James)[reply]

Billy Van

Thanks for getting back to me, Jim. Feedback like that is constructive, and will help me contribute more usefully to Wikipedia. I want to create a page for this artist, even if it's only a stub. My purpose isn't promotional, but rather to add depth to Wikipedia's coverage of the EDM world. I feared that if I didn't include the information that I did, the article might be deleted for failure to provide notability of the subject. If I play with the page in my Sandbox and make adjustments based on your feedback, will you look it over?

Chronofied (talk) 19:57, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for agreeing to review it. I've made some major revisions and cleanups. Chronofied (talk) 15:09, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've made these further revisions, including an intro sentence, stating the university he attended and a reduction of the external links as suggested. I'll move the article soon. Thanks again for the critique and input. Chronofied (talk) 17:00, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of George Komsky

Jim,

Thank you for your prompt and informative reply, I truly appreciate it. I am new to wikipedia and made some beginner's errors. We have many more articles and videos to meet the independent verification guidelines, we simply and foolishly did not post them all.

(for instance George's work with Chris Botti is wikilink-worthy correct?)

Is there no way to edit the original entry and make it meet the exact standards you outlined? Or do we have to go through wikipedia requested articles only...?

Further, if one of George's fans were to create a page down the road instead, would they run into obstacles because of this deletion? I would remove myself from the process right now if I could, my interest really is only to state what he has actually accomplished.

Thanks Jim, I hope you can help me with just a little further advice.

Ngoesseringer (talk) 01:40, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jim. Sorry I took so long getting back to you. I was a friend of Lou Whitney and Donnie Clinton Thompson, Marali (Lou's wife back then) and Rongo Kemp. Mostly, however, I knew Lou and Donnie best. I was the front man in another band and we often played gig near to where ever the Morels were playing. (The Morel majority!) In about 1979 or '80, my bass player dragged me in to see DC Thompson play. He said, "you MUST see this band and Tele player!". (I have always played a Tele -they were cheap!) I was blown away. After seeing DC Thompson play, I was never the same! I was frequently late on breaks with my band because I forgot the time while watching the Morels play! I'd just park myself at Donnie's feet and get a free guitar lessons. It took me months to learn the lead on "Reds"! (My band covered "Reds" -also a truly great diner in Springfield, MO) Lou has a thing about diners. He truly loves them and says that, "New Jersey has the best diners in the world". DC Clinton has influenced my guitar playing ever since those wonderful years. I started as a country player, then switched to blues, soul and then to older jazz and R&B styles. Like Thompson. I suppose, I sound retro to the average ear. In the end, I have no idea how I play the way I play. I studied jazz swing guitar with the great Richard Leiberson for several years in NYC, however that is my only formal training. I read music, but not enough to hurt me. Donnie Thompson (my name is Donnie as well) never practices -EVER. Lou confirmed this. DC's talent is utter magic. Because of Thompson I switched from using old Fender Bassman and Super Reverb amps, and started playing Deluxe Reverbs with Alnico speakers. The lower wattage and 6V6 sound makes the difference. Plus, they are much easier to get in a cab! I play a '63 Tele, a '41 Epiphone archtop (16.5")w/ a 1950's floating Rhythm Chief and 2 pre war Martins. A D-28 and an 0-28. Although the finest flat-top I ever owned was a '46 D-18. These days, I mostly play Jazz on my old Archtop. I have not been close to Lou and Donnie for years. I moved to the east coast -a big mistake. Lou warned me! Someday, I will go back to my home state of Missouri and visit Lou and Donnie. We used to chat on the phone, but that faded -you know how things go. Someday, we'll hook up again. They are great guys and both of them are true geniuses. BTW: Lou and Donnie are a matched set. They always do everything together and are the closest friends. Never, have I seen a partnership like that in music. -Truly inspirational guys. Someone should write a decent page on these two musical icons. Bixlives! (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
