Castle Frank is a station on the Bloor–Danforth line of the subway system in Toronto, Canada. It is located at 600 Bloor Street East at Castle Frank Road, near the former location of Viaduct streetcar loop, which was the longtime terminus of the Parliament streetcar.

Entrances

  • The main entrance to the station is located at Castle Frank Road and Bloor.
  • A second (automatic) entrance at the west end of the station (closer to Parliament Street) is under construction. The much delayed[2] project was scheduled for completion in spring 2012.[3] This was delayed again, and the exit finally opened in December 2012.
The much delayed second exit towards the westerly end of the station, shown still incomplete in December 2011

History

Castle Frank Station, opened in 1966, is named after the community that it serves. Its streets, and the brook that flows through it, are in turn named after Sir John Graves Simcoe's summer residence in that area overlooking the Don River, which burned down in 1829. The residence was ultimately named after Francis Simcoe, his son.

Subway infrastructure in the vicinity

East of the station, the line runs under Bloor Street to use the lower deck of the Prince Edward Viaduct. At the end of the Viaduct it swings to parallel Danforth Avenue on the north side.

Nearby landmarks

Nearby landmarks include Rosedale Ravine, Rosedale Heights School of the Arts, St. James Cemetery and the western end of the Prince Edward Viaduct.
