Balika Vadhu — Kachchi Umar Ke Pakke Rishte ( English: Child Bride — Strong Relationships of Tender Age), commonly abbreviated as Balika Vadhu is an Indian television drama series that premiered on 21 July 2008 on Colors TV. Originally airing from Monday through Friday, from mid 2013 it also began airing on Saturday. Toral Rasputra became the lead after Pratyusha Banerjee left on 27 February 2013.

Plot
Set in rural Rajasthan, Balika Vadhu follows the story of Anandi (Toral Rasputra) who was married to Jagdish when she was 8.
Badi Haveli's Singh family is very repected family in Jaitsar. Dadisa is the head of the family. She has 2 sons. Basant and Bhairav. Basant is married to Jamuna and Bhirav to Sumitra. Basant has no children while Bhairav has 2 children. Suguna and Jagadish.
Anandi is a very bright student. But her marriage gets fixed at an early age of 8. Her teacher tries very hard to stop the marriage but she couldn't succeed and is banned from the village. Anandi gets married to Jagadish(who is also of same age) and enters the Badi Haveli. Mean while Jamuna dies because of going through many abortions. So Jagya's parents decide not to send Suguna to her sasural before 18. Dadisa asks Anandi to do all the chores but Jagya's parents always help her out. Jagya and Anandi doesn't like each other at the start but later on they became gr8 buddies. She helps him in his homework secretly as Dadisa bans her not to study anymore. Dadisa doesn't like Anandi as she thinks Anandi is a spoilt brat. In the meantime, Suguna and Pratap(Husband of Suguna) meet each other secretly and Jagya helps them in this. Dadisa is very strict with rules and always punishes Anandi even for a small mistake. This forces Anandi to run away to her parent's house but they plead Dadisa to take her in. Dadisa agrees.
Meanwhile, Basant gets addicted to alcohol. So to remove her son from this, Dadisa fixes the marriage of Basant with Gehna(who is half the age of Basant). Gehna's parents r very poor and are in debt. As Dadisa offers financial help to them, Gehna is left with no other option. After marriage, she comes to know abt Jamuna's death. Even though Basant tries to molest and harass her, she raises her voice against him and also Dadisa. But she is equally taunted by both mother-son duo. Gehna becomes pregnant but she wants to abort it. But due to Dadisa's threats regd her family, she agrees to keep the baby. She tells them that she will leave after giving birth to their Vansh. Anandi gets to study at home with Dadisa's approval.
Suguna's meetings with Pratap cotinue. No one in the family is aware of this. Pratap's parents wants to take her to Sasural and with Dadisa's interference, all agree for the gauna. But Pratap and his family gets attacked while coming for the marriage. Pratap gets killed in this. Suguna starts to live her life like a widow. She is asked to live in a dark room without any facilities. Jagya's parents oppose this but Suguna accepts this. Badi Maasi, Dadisa's sis visits her and gets shocked seeing the conditions and customs followed. She tries very hard to get the change and succeed's in bringing back suguna to normal. She also tries to mend Basant and Gehna's marriage and advices Basant to make her happy. Basant brings in a music teacher for Gehna. Suguna starts her studies again.
On her way to school, Suguna meets Shyam. She doesn't like him as he plays a prank on her. Villagers oppose the decision of getting suguna educated again but Bhairav doesn't relent. Taking this as an inspiration, 2 more widows start their education. Shyam saves Jagya while he is falling off a cliff and become's both Jagya and Anandi's friend. Shyam also tries to get friendly with suguna but suguna doesn't want to. Gehna and Basant's relationship starts improving.
Suguna and her family gets to know abt her pregnancy. She tells them that it's pratap's child. Dadisa wnats her to get an abortion but is stopped by Bhairav. Shyam confesses his love to suguna but she tells him abt her pregnancy.But he still wants to marry her. He takes the permission of Dadisa and Suguna's parents. Suguna is not interested but accepts it. Shyam doesn't mention abt the pregnancy to his parents whih will be presnted to them on the wedding day. They leave the hall with the family but Shyam marries Suguna. They start living in BH. Suguna doesn't accept Shyam in the beginning but slowly she starts taking care of his things. Shyam starts working.
Meanwhile, Jagya begins to gamble and smoke under the influene of his friends. Though Anandi notices this, she doesn't tell anyone in the hope that Jagya will be redeemed himself. Jagya lies all the time. Bhairav gets to know abt this and scolds him. Jagya promises to come bak in the right path.
Anandi goes back to her parent's house as Dadisa blames her for all the misfortunes. This doesn't go well with Jagya and again he starts to hangout with his bad friends. One day, while he is playing cards the police raids and catches him. He gets freed by his family. So, they decide to send him to a boarding school. Bhairav brings back Anandi and also pay the debts of Anandi's parents. After lots of coaxing, Bhairav decides not to send Jagya to a boarding school.
Suguna and Shyam gets back to his house.As suguna's delivery date nears, RS tries to get rid of the baby but no luck favours him. And dadisa reminds Gehna to leave after delivring her grandson. Basant listens to cono between Gehna and sumitra and thinks that Gehna wants to leave him. After the delivery, she leaves him. He thinks that he is not suitable for her and arranges her marriage with the music teacher. But gehna refuses saying that she loves Basant. Suguna gives birth to a premature baby. Suguna finally accepts shyam as her husband.
Anandi and Jagya gets the exam results. 75% to Anandi and 55% to Jagya. But he lies and tells them that he got 75%. Bhairav comes to know abt it and scolds him. So he goes to Mumbai along with his friend. But he gets kidnapped. While saving him Anandi gets shot due to which she suffers memory loss.
Dadisa with the help of Teepri(who loves Bhairav) arranges a second marriage to Jagya with Gudiya. she forcefully gets them married but the panchayat declares this as null as Anandi's memories return. Bhairav appologises and offers help to Gudiya's parents but they refuse.
Suguna gets pregnant agin but due to her excess insecurity regarding Varun(Pratap's son) causes her abortion. All along with shyam blame her but later they reconcile.
During Anandi's birthday, Jagya tries to peep in to see Anandi changing her dress. Sumitra gets offended and both she and Bhairav deides to send Anandi to her parent's place till she becomes 18. Jagya gets angry but Anandi takes a promise from him that he will study well.
Leap of 5 yrs
On Anandi's 18th birthday both Jagya and Anandi meet and have some secret private moments. Anandi comes back to BH. Jagya becomes desperate as he comes to know that they hav to wait for 1 week to become one. Jagya is extremely romantic.
Varun falls down from the stairs and injures his leg because of RS. Jagya and Anandi wants to cancel their honeymoon but all of them presaude them to go. Due to flight cancellation, they consummate at Mumbai.
Varun is declared as half-paralysed. Jagya and Anandi comes back and goes to meet him.
Jagya wants to become a Doctor and while submission of Application he meets Gauri, who is also joing the same college. Shyam and suguna gets to know that RS doesn't save Varun and lets him fall down. Shyam's father throws him out of the house.
Jagya gets admission in Mumbai medical college. But he gets ragged on the first day while supporting Gauri, so he returns back to Jaitsar. But with Anandi's help and Varun's insistence he goes back and gathers all the juniors to oppose ragging.
Anandi stops a child marriage in Jaitsar and gets the praises.
In Mumbai, Jagya starts to fall in love with Gauri. He introduces himself as Jagat and hides that he is married. He behaves indiffrently with Anandi when he visits Jaitsar. When Anandi visits Mumbai, they hav a huge fight and he tells her that he can't continue this relationship. She hides the fact from the family but they eventually gets to know abt it.Anandi decides to continue her studies. Gauri confesses her love.
3 yr leap
Jagya completes his studies and comes to Jiatsar. He tells them that he wants to stay in Mumbai forver and returns back. Gauri is revealed to be gudiya who is getting support from her Bade papa. Jagya and Gauri pretend to be married in order to get a house. He calls Anandi and tells her that the relationship is completed. Bhairav comes to Mumbai and gets to know abt JaGa's relationship. Sumitra tries to get Jagya back. So they decide to support Anandi.
Jagadish writes a letter to Gauri stating all the facts but she never gets to see the letter. Gauri goes to Jaitsar and finds out the truth abt Jagya. She becomes disheartened to learn it. She blames him for all the things happened to her from childhood. But when he applogises, she agrees to marry him.
He brings her to the home, but no one in BH is ready to give them a chance. So, they move to Mumbai. He starts his relationship with Gauri. Gauri, due to her own insecurities tries to take Jagya away from his family. Jagya however continues to care for his family and Anandi. This doesn't go well with Gauri. And she starts instigating him. When gauri gets to know from her Bade papa that Bhairav is her benefactor, she blames Bhairav. She becomes extremely insecure. She completes her MS but Jagya fails to do so. Gauri constantly bugs Jagya to get the divorce from Anandi so that they can make their marriage legal.
Meanwhile, Anandi completes her studies and establishes a school. She starts teaching children. With the help of BH family, she becomes Sarpanch of Jaitsar. She doees all the social work and enlighten the people of Jaitsar. BH family is really proud of her. Whole Jaitsar loves her.
Gauri becomes pregnant. Due to his failure, Jagya becomes alcoholic. After an argument with Jagya, Gauri gets into an accident while driving a car. She looses the baby and puts the entire blame on Anandi. Jagya cuts off all his ties from Anandi. He takes care of Gauri. Gauri becomes normal. She starts working in a super speciality hospital.
Dadisa and the whole family thinks of marrying Anandi again.
Jaitsar village turns into a district and the 1st collector of Jaitsar is ShivRaj shekar. Shiv saves Anandi in their first meeting. Dadisa likes shiv and thinks him as a prospective groom for Anandi. As collector and Sarpanch, both Anandi and Shiv work togeder on a project. Dadisa utilises this oppurtunity and sends all types of food to Collector. Slowly, Shiv gets impressed with Anandi and her work as Sarpanh. He even visits her school. When shiv's fnd Aashima visits him, he gets her to BH. Both shiv and Anandi starts showing her places. During this time, shiv starts to develop feelings for Anandi. Dadisa arranges Shiv's birthday in BH. Dadisa also scares away a rishta which comes for Shiv. Shiv atlast proposes Anandi but she refuses.
Jagya and Gauri start to have fights beacuse of the Job issue. But later they reconcile. Jagya thinks of going to Bangalore on his friend's insistence but Gauri doesn't want to loose her career. She coaxes him not to go to Bangalore.
Dadisa goes to Anandi's parents and Bhago(Anandi's mom) is on her death bed. She tells them abt shiv and Bhago takes a promise from Anandi to get married to Shiv which she agrees. Anandi's mom dies. Jagya comes there on Gauri's insistence to get something but Anandi catches him doing so. She tells him that she can never forgive him and agrees to marry Shiv.
Jagya starts thinking abt Anandi all the time even when he is with Gauri. He gets the notice for Divorce. He goes there but gets into a fight with Shiv and is jailed. Shiv comes to know that Jagya is Anandi's first husband and releases him. Jagya and Anandi finally gets divorced.
Shiv's family is very liberal. Family consists of Daddu, Alok(shiv's dad), Ira(Shiv's mom), Meenu(Choti Ma), Sanchi(Shiv's sis), Mahi( Choti Ma's son). They readily accept Anandi as their Bahu.
Gauri wants to get remarried again to make their marriage legal but Jagya comes to know of all the lies and the manipulations she has done to get him away from his family. So, he ditches her and goes away.
Meanwhile, Anandi finds a fnd in Shiv and starts to share her feelings with him. Both families decide on a engagement date.
On the day of their Engagement, Jagya comes back as he realises that he is in love with Anandi only. He gets devastated seeing them engaged.Then he was heart broken and he got an heart attack then he was kept serious in the hospital. Then he asked Anandi for forgiveness but she didn't forgive him then He wants to take revenge on Anandi as his family doesn't allow him to come into the Haveli. He gets into good books of the villagers and starts to work in the collector office to defame him. He changes the numbers in the railway document. Later he pretends to have amnesia and tries to get back Anandi. Dadisa asks Anandi to pretend as his wife and choti ma gets irked seeing this. But shiv gives his prmission. Shiv relaises that he is pretending but doesn't let anyone know of it.
Jagya later pleads Shiv to stop the marraige as he feels that Anandi still loves him. Shiv stops the marraige talks but Anandi realises that Jagya is behind this and tells shiv that she wants to marry him and doesn't want to get back to her past. Jagya leaves Jaitsar afetr listening this.
Shiv gets arrested in the Railway case but Jagya comes and tells the truth and apologize for his mistake. Shiv using his power releases him. Shiv and Anandi's arriage preparations start. Anandi tells Jagya that she forgives him. And leaves to start a fresh life with Shiv.
Atlast Anandi gets married to shiv in a lavish ceremony. Jagya goes away from house leaving a letter saying that he wants to get prayascith.
Anandi is not comfortable abt Suhaag raat and she sleeps off for the first 2 days. Shiv thinks that she must be tired but he doesn't get the real reason. One day, when everyone is out, he tries to get romantic but she tells him abt her fear to share a bed with him. He understands her and promises her to give as much time as possible.
Jagya, is in a village treating the villagers to get remorse. There he meets Ganga (beginning of a wonderful story), who is running away with her child from her husband. But because of him, she gets caught. Later he gets to know that she is also a Balika Vadhu but she has to bear the insults and beatings of her in-laws everyday. Infact, she also has a sautan. He compares her situation to Anandi and deides to help her. But she refuses to take any help from anyone as she trusts no one.
Shiv and Anandi comes for pagphera and gets to know abt Jagadish leaving the house. Later, shiv gets to know the location of Jagya and both he and Anandi presaude him to come back to Jaitsar. Before leaving, he leaves his number with Ramu kaka(servant of Ganga).
Everyone in BH becomes happy seeing him back. They want him to become the Head Doctor for the hospital they constructed in Jaitsar. He agrees. Singh family invites Shekar's family to celebrate Sankranti in their house. Ira feels dejected as she wants Shiv and Anandi to celebrate it in udaipur. so, they leave for udaipur in the mng and then in the evng they go to BH. Ganga also decides to escape on sankranti but Jagya doesn't lift the call as he was busy playing kites. She escapes and boards a bus but gets caught by Ratan Singh(Ganga's husband) in Jaitsar. He takes away her son and beats her. Jagya and others save her and take her to hospital.
Ganga tells her story to BH family.
Ganga's story: She lost her parents at a young age. So, her mami marries her off to a man who is laready married and double her age. THe in-laws used to harass her physically and mentally. Her husband is a monstor. when she couldn't concieve after yrs of marriage, they get Ratan singh married to nother lady. At that time, Ganga finds out that she is pregnant. She stays in that house to take care of Mannu. She finds out that they r planning to kill her off after Mannu reaches a certain age. So, she wants to run off from that place along with her son as she doesn't want her son to grow up at such a place. But ends up getting caught.
Jagya and shiv promises Ganga to bring back her son. And she can stay in BH till that time. Ganga stays aloof in her own world. She cries remembering her son. Jagya tells abt his past. Ganga advises him to say sorry to Gauri also as he wronged her also along with Anandi.
So, he goes to Mumbai. But gauri doesn't want to talk to him. So, he leaves a sorry message and comes back to Jaitsar.
Anandi is falling for Shiv slowly. She starts to take care of his small things. Shiv's sister Sanchi doesn't like Anandi that much. She always tries to put her down. But Anandi doesn't mind. She is happy with Shiv. She realises that she has fallen for him and wants to confess her love when shiv goes away to some village on official purpose.
Anandi and all the singh family encourage Ganga to start her education. Shiv comes back but Anandi goes to a village for the school opening by her teacher ji. She finds Mannu there and after fighting with Ratan singh she and shiv brings back Mannu(Ganga's Son).
Jagya tells Ganga that she can become a nurse. Jagya once treats Sanchi when she gets into a small accident. Sanchi starts to harbor feelings for him since then. But she starts to hate Ganga and Mannu as once Jagya gives more importance to Mannu than her while treating.
Shiv's mom gets angry when she gets to know that Shiv and Anandi r not having the physical relationship like other married couples. She informs Sumitra but Shiv handles the situation. Shiv and Anandi atlast confess their feelings for each other.
Shiv gets transferred to Udaipur. Jaitsar people want to stop them from leaving but Anandi makes them agree. She also tells Jagya to reconsider marriage but he refuses as he still hav feelings for her. Jaitsar people arrange a lavish farewell party for Shiv and Anandi. Jagya atlast agrees to marry and also asks Anandi to find a bride for him.
Shiv and Anandi celebrate their first holi together. They go to Kashmir for their honeymoon. There shiv gets kidnapped but Anandi, with her intelligence gets him back. And they consummate.
Meanwhile, Jagya visits Udaipur for some machines. Shiv's daddu gets an attack, so he decides to stay back for 2 days. During this time, Sanchi falls for him. In BH, Ganga saves Gehna from theives.
Jagya starts to spend some quality time with Ganga and Mannu. He loves Mannu's company. He gets to know abt Ganga's poetry.
After AnSh(Anandi+Shiv) return from their honeymoon, Anandi along with Sanchi visit Jaitsar. There Sanchi gets to know abt the lie that Dadisa told to the rishta for shiv. She gets angry and leaves from there. She informs everyone in the house regd. this. Shiv controls the situation but Ira gets really angry.
Meanwhile, Sanchi continues to call Jagya and asks his help in a project. And she also wants him to come over and give a seminar in her college. He visits Udaipur and Sanchi tries to seduce him by wearing a short dress. Jagya saves Sanchi from a rape attempt. And he returns back to Jaitsar. Sanchi falls deeply for him.
Meanwhile, Jagya takes Ganga to a temple. There some goons beat him up. Ganga takes him to hospital and she tells Lal Singh(Jagya's fnd and a doctor) to save him, otherwise she can't live without him.
Sanchi and AnSh gets to know regd this and rushes to Jaitsar. After regaining consciousness, Jagya asks them to leave but Sanchi is adamant on not leaving till he recovers completely. So, Anandi also stays along with Sanchi. Sanchi tries to demean Ganga and instigates Sumitra against her.
Jagya comes back home and Sanchi gives him a surprise by wearing a Indian wear. Evryone in BH gets impressed with her. She starts to cook to impress Jagya. She also starts hating Mannu. Anandi senses that Sanchi and Ganga both r having feelings for Jagya.
Ira and Alok comes to BH to thank and take back Sanchi and Anandi. They get pleasently surprised seeing the change in Sanchi. Sanchi and Anandi return back to KesarBagh(KB), Udaipur. The shekar's family gets a rishta for Sanchi but she refuses saying that she is in love with Jagya. They r shocked at first but later decide to take the rishta to BH.
Here, Ganga plans a surprise birthday party for Jagya along with Singh family. She invites Shekar's also. Jagya becomes surprised seeing the decors and feels happy. Shekar's come and Sanchi brings in a special cake for him. Ganga also prepares a cake. Jagya cuts Ganga's cake and Sanchi gets angry. Jagya leaves as he gets an emergency case.
Daddu tells the Singh's regd Sanchi's love and proposes for Sanchi's marriage to Jagya. When Ganga learns abt this, she gets heart broken. Jagya agrees to the proposal as he thinks that it will affect Anandi if he say a no. While leaving, Sanchi tells sumitra that Ganga should leave BH as they get to know that the attack on Jagya is done by Ratan singh. Ganga gets admission in Mangalore nursing school.
Gehna becomes pregnant again. After her GodhBarai, Ratan singh attacks BH. He threatens Ganga to give back her son or else he will kill the whole family. But suguna on Anandi's insistence comes with police and saves them. Jagya and Bhairav leaves to give a police complaint.
Ganga feels herself responsible for all this and decides to leave BH. She takes her leave from Dadisa and other family members. Jagya gets angry on learning abt this and goes on to find her. He finds her and keeps her in Hospital worker's quarters without letting his family know abt this.
Sanchi feels happy on knowing that Ganga left BH. Anandi gets herself involved in social work.
Gehna's delivery is done by Ganga as Jagya and other doctors goes to a near by village. The family gets to know abt Ganga living in hospital quarters and Sumitra gets angry. Ganga and Ratan Singh gets divorced and Mannu's custody goes to Ganga. Jagya promises Ganga to accompany her on her journey to Mangalore. Sanchi bribes the Pandit to fix the engagement date on the day of their travelling.
Jagya refuses for the engagemnt but Ganga makes him agree. But he couldn't stop himself and goes to the bus stop without informing anyone. He bids her farewell and feels very bad on seeing them leave. He reaches home and gets engaged to Sanchi.
He decides to go to Mangalore on Teej day as he couldn't forget them. He spends some happy moments with Ganga and Mannu. But Sanchi gets angry on learning abt this. Ira and Sanchi asks him to come to Udaipur directly from Mangalore. He agrees as Sanchi gets injured in a small fi8 in a mela arranged by Anandi.
He feels very sad on leaving Mangalore. He reaches Udaipur and Sanchi's acts make him uncomfortable. When Anandi asks his realtion with Ganga, he realises that he is in love with Ganga. But for his family's happiness, he decides not to say abt his feelings to anyone. He goes back to Jaitsara nd decides to do MS to forget Ganga. But even after 6 months, he couldn't. Ganga also completes her course and she eagerly waits to return back to Jaitsar.
He returns back and finds from Lalsingh that Ganga is also in love with him. He arranges a job for Ganga in Jaipur but Ganga declines the offer and decides to stay in Mangalore as she doesn't want to bother him anymore. She takes the job from a lusty rapist Bala without knowing his intentions. He tries to rape her but she escapes. When she tells the officials regd this, he puts the blame of theft on her and gets her arrested.
Jagya goes to Udaipur on some medical purpose without informing anyone in KB. But he meets Anandi on his way back. They go to a coffee shop and listens to Sanchi's convo regd. the acting she is doing to impress Jagya's family. She talks lowly of BH people. Jagya and Anandi gets shocked but Anandi asks him time so that she an talk to Shiv regd this.
Jagya realises that Sanchi is not the girl to keep his family happy. So he goes to KB and breaks the rishta. They inform Singhs regd this. Singhs r equally shocked.
When sanchi comes to know abt this, she says that she was just joking with her fnds and it's not real. But Anandi has her own doubts. All the shekar's decide to go to Jaitsar and sort out the issue after 2 days.
Jagya comes to Jaitsar but before explaining the reason, he gets a call from his fnd abt Ganga being in Jail. He decides to leave but Sumitra thinks that Ganga is the one who told Jagya to cancel his marriage.
He free's Ganga from Jail and brings her back to Jaitsar. Sumitra insults her and questions the relationship between them. So, Ganga decides to leave but Jagya stops her and confesses his love. Just then Shekar's also come to Jaitsar. Jagya fills Ganga's maang with sindoor. Everyone gets shocked.
Shekar's and Singh's insults them and leaves from there. Ira asks Anandi to choose b/w the 2 families. Anandi goes with shekars. Dadisa doesn't allow Ganga and Jagya in her house. So they stay at Lal Singh's house. Ganga is still not able to accept her relation with Jagya. So, Jagya wants to make it legal by marrying her with all the rituals. Bhairav talks with Jagya and understands him. He gives his blessings to them. Then JaGan (Jagya and Ganga )lived in Lal Singh's home, Jagya convinces her and they started their new life.
Sanchi's fnd advise her to get Jagya by hook or by crook. So, she slits her hand. Meanwhile, Jagya gets married to Ganga with all the rituals.
Shekar's take Sanchi to hospital. After regaining consciousness, she asks abt Jagya. Dadisa and Bhairav visits her and tells them that Jagya married Ganga legally. When Sanchi knows abt it, she puts a case on Jagya for forcing her to commit suicide and all the family support her.
Jagya gets arrested and Ganga informs Singh's regd this. They take him to Udaipur. Anandi and Ganga gets summons to attend the court session. Ira warns Anandi to take their side.
Ganga goes to KB to request them to withdraw the case but Sanchi takes her out and starts saying all the drama she has done. And she says that the case is fake as the suicide drama is fake too. She tells her that she will withdraw the case only if she leaves Jagya. But Ganga doesn't agree.
In court, Anandi gives the statement infavour of Jagya.Ganga recorded Sanchi's talks and played it infront of her family then Shivraj and his family asked forgiveness.
