Thalanagara is a part of Kasaragod, the district headquarters of the Kasaragod district in the South Indian state of Kerala. Malik Deenar Jama Masjid and Dargah is located here. Economy is dependent on remittance from ex-pat workers, working in the Persian Gulf, particularly Dubai. Thalangara consists of areas like Padinhar, Kunnil, Kadavath (means Ferry Stand) Khazilane, Nuppadamail, Bangod, Theruvath (means street in Malayalam). The areas of Thalangara consist of smaller mohallas (localities) and each locality has its own mosque and madrassa. Most of the people are conservative and gives importance to religious education. Malik Deenar Islamic Academy is a prominent religious institution located at bank of Chandrigari river. Talangara also houses the oldest and the biggest hospital in Kasargod district The Malik Dinar Charitable Hospital which was established in 1970 by Janab KS Abdullah. {{citation}}: Empty citation (help). Malik Deenar (رضي الله عنه)

Malik Deenar (رضي الله عنه), Arabic مالك دينار رضي الله عنه is the first follower of the Islamic prophet Muhammed who came to India to propagate Islam in the Indian Subcontinent.His grave locates at Thalangara and it is the one of national pilgrimage centre of Muslims.[1] Actual grave of Malik Deenar

Malik Deenar Grand Juma Masjid

Malik Deenar Mosque, formally Malik Deenar Grand Juma Masjid, is a mosque located about a kilometre from Kasaragod, Kerala, India, on the coast. The mosque is dedicated to Malik Deenar who arrived from Arabia with his family on a mission to spread Islam on the coast of Kerala. It was originally built in around 642.[2] Years later, the mosque was reconstructed in 1809.

Malik Deenar Uroos (مالك دينار عروس) is the one of the main observations of Indian muslims to celebrate the arrival of Malik Deenar to Kerala, India. It is conducted in the holy month of muharram and lasts for one month. It also includes various rituals such as the Ziyarath (visiting of tomb), Patakayarthal (flag hosting) and Annadanam.[3]

Malik Deenar Islamic Academy (مجمع مالك دينار الاسلامي) is an Islamic educational institution in Thalangara. It was established in 2001 April 11 under the Malik Deenar Great Juma masjid committee is affiliated to Darul Huda Islamic University,[4] Malappuram, Kerala and follows its educational curriculum. The Academy admits applicants younger than 12 and who have passed the public examination of fifth standard conducted by Samastha Kerala Islamic Educational Board for a 12-year course at the institution. The college has more than three hundred attendees from both Kerala and Karnataka.[5]

Thalangara Thoppi

Thalangara Thoppi (Cap) was a very popular item in the past. It was produced domestically in the earlier years. In the past years, it was rare to find a home not involved in making these Thalangara Thoppi. Late K.S. Abdul Khader Haji, M.P. Abdul Khader Haji and Padhindadkal Mohammed Haji, Peediyakkaaran Moideen were the founders of this industry. The products were exported mainly to gulf countries. This industry played an important role in the economy of Thalangara at that time, but due to the introduction of mechanised production of these items, handmade caps cannot compete on the basis of price any longer, and the production of caps has been significantly reduced in the Thalangara area.

Ship Building Industry

Thalangara was famous for small ship (dhow) building industry. The ship building industry of Thalangara is a well known in India as well as foreign contries. In the past years a number of ships were built here and sold in various states of India and exported to foreign countries.Mr.Talangara Hassankutyka from Talangara Family Member started wooden ship building industries in India 17th centuary.

Film location

Thalangara was one of the main location of Maniratnam film Bombay(film). The first half of the film is almost shot from Thalangara. Thalangara Harbour is the main view of the film.

A R Rahman's worldspace ad was also shot at Thalangara Harbour.
