Wikipedia:Admin coaching

Admin Coaching

Admin Coaching is not a program to guide users through the RFA process. It is a program where experienced users help people to learn the ways of Wikipedia. While being better versed in the various contributions expected of a prospective admin will help your RfA succeed, Admin Coaching does not guarantee that you will pass the RfA. Ultimately, this is your responsibility, not the responsibility of your coach. So if you come here looking for a personal coach in order to pass RFA, you're at the wrong place.

I think a valuable service would be to provide a clearinghouse where people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia culture could be matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

  27. I think I'm ready to help coach. Like Ilyanep, Petros, et al, I'd want to be paired with another more experienced admin at least the first time or two. My areas of interest (see my RfA Question 1) are article edits, DYK, article deletions, policy and a little bit of reversions, so pairing with a RCP/vandal fighter might be a good choice. ++Lar: t/c 20:44, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. I don't know if I want to be an admin, but I do want to be better at vandal patrol, getting articles to FA status, communication, etc. For now, I just want to be a helpful user who is able to contribute to more than just editing. I just want to be a better user :). —Mirlen 00:04, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  2. I guess I'm still a newbie here, and it has been great to get help from people like ThatGuyFromThatShow and TangoTango and others, and I'm certainly still in need of advice. But I don't want to take up too much of people's time. Sarah crane 19:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  6. I'd like to eventually become an admin, but I'm defenitly not ready yet. It'd be nice to have someone to help me become a better editor. -SBrools (talk)
  7. This looks like a great idea. I'd like to see this program from both sides, eventually. Feezo (Talk) 06:59, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Hey, why not. I'm thinking loosely about a RfA, but figure I'll wait until either someone else does it for me, or just wait until I blow up. But in the meantime, this might be nice. So yeah, bring it on. Thanks, zappa 05:56, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  9. I've been told my editcount is at the level where people are going to start falling over themselves soon to nominate me for adminship, so I guess I'd better learn something about it, although I don't yet have an opinion about whether I want to be one, other than that the nomination process looks like it's been devised by Simon Cowell... Even if I decide adminship isn't for me, learning more about Wikipedia culture sounds completely worthwhile in my activities as an ordinary editor SP-KP 23:03, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  31. BusterD I'm comfy with most basic editing, linking, but I want to use my time here better as it relates to vandalism, become more positive and less personal, and perhaps grow into a responsible history and geography related wikiperson. I haven't really seen the firehose stream yet, and am interested in moving forward. A couple of more experienced folks have been mentoring me informally, but I'd work to be a good pupil. 38. I've been administrator on hungarian Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikibooks (+bureaucrat) and Uncyclopedia (+bureaucrat) for a long time. I work here as the maintainer of Medicine portal (featured candidate), I'm part of the Wikipedia Version 0.5 review team (scientific coordinator) and coordinator of Medicine Wikiproject. I know that I need more experiment here, but maybe one day I'd like to be admin. Thanks for help. NCurse work 10:20, 3 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  39. I think I could use some guidance at this point. I'm just starting to venture as an editor into more controversial articles than the science and local ones I have mostly worked on. Also, I suspect I may have some bad habits I'm not even aware of, and if so I would appreciate someone pointing those out to me. --Ginkgo100 21:28, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  43. I feel that I have made very valuable contributions to the project, not just in terms of editing, but in vandal fighting and other admin-esque activities. I would, however, like to get some objective advice on how I might improve my performance here in order for a potential RfA run. --cholmes75 (chit chat) 16:23, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  44. I believe that I have contributed well into sports articles, including making WikiProject NBL. I hope to make an RFA run in 6-8 months. I am thinking to joining the fight in vandalism but I believe I need more training before I can start my RFA nomination. Jasrocks Talk) 09:37, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
