WakuWaku Japan (or stylized as WAKUWAKU JAPAN), is an Japanese general entertainment channel which broadcasts Japanese programs to overseas viewers in the world. This channel broadcasts Japanese only program during 24 hours non-stop. Language which broadcasts in this channel were Japanese, Malay, Mandarin and English language. This channel's subtitle are available in selected countries, while dubbing are available in selected countries only. WakuWaku Japan HD on Astro Channel 396 will be launching broadcast soon in Malaysia in 2015 and will be announced by Astro Malaysia Holdings and by the Astro's news channel, Astro Awani.

History

WakuWaku means 'feeling of excitement', 'pleasing', 'thrilling', and 'more' in Japanese. SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation had starting this channel project for overseas in 2011. In order to make everything on track, Japanese government has allocated fund amounted to 15.5 billion yen (or approximately US$126.17 million) for this channel's financing. This great amount of fund will be used both for subtitle making cost and dubbing, also promotion cost, office, and program production cost.[1] On February 22, 2014, WakuWaku Japan officially launched in Indonesia. It was launched at 5.00 pm, and its first program are 'WakuWaku Japan Music Festival'. At that time, this channel was only available on Indovision and OkeVision, but in June 1, 2014, WakuWaku Japan was available on Transvision, OrangeTV, BiG TV, and First Media. On the same day, WakuWaku Japan officially launched on Myanmar and only available in 4TV, an Burmese terrestrial pay television in Myanmar. On March 4, 2015, SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation plans to expand Japanese content to overseas by establishing WakuWaku Japan Corporation.[2][3] On July 1, 2015, WakuWaku Japan Corporation officially established, taking over its ownership from SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation, but in July 6, 2015, WakuWaku Japan officially launched in Singapore and only available on Singtel TV.
