Ali Nuhu (born 15 March 1974) is a Nigerian actor, producer, director and television personality. Referred to in the media as the "King of Kannywood", "Sarki Ali" or "King Ali", he has appeared in hundreds of Hausa language films and several English language films, and earned numerous accolades. Nuhu has a significant following in Africa and the Nigerian diaspora worldwide. In terms of audience size and income, he has been described as one of the most successful film stars in the Africa.[dubiousdiscuss]

As of 2008, Nuhu is co-chairman of the motion picture production company FKD productions and its subsidiaries. He regularly features in listings of the most influential people in Hausa culture.[citation needed]

Early life and family

Ali Nuhu was born on 15 March 1974 in Maiduguri to a Gombe State indigene father and Borno State mother. He spent most of his formative years in Kano. His father hails from Balanga town of Gombe State while his mother is from Bama town of Borno State. He spent the highest number of his years growing in Yakasai,No Man's land and Hausawa areas of Kano town.[1] He attended Riga Special Primary School, Government Commercial Secondary School and Science Secondary School in Kano State where he obtained his primary certificate, junior secondary certificate and senior secondary certificate respectively. He obtained a degree in Geography from the University of Jos.[2] He is married with 3 children.[3]

Ali Nuhu receives a considerable amount of media coverage in Nigeria, and is often referred to as "The King of Kannywood", "Sarki Ali" or "King Ali". Nigeria cites him as an "ever present celebrity", with nine or ten films a year, constantly running television ads, print ads and gigantic billboards lining the streets of Nigerian cities.[citation needed] He is the object of a sometimes fanatical following, with a fan base estimated to exceed 98 million.[dubiousdiscuss] Nuhu is one of the wealthiest celebrities in Nigeria, topping the Forbes Nigeria's "Celebrity 100 list" in 2012, 2013 and 2015.[citation needed] Nuhu frequently appears on listings of the most popular, stylish and influential people in Nigeria. Nuhu has been brand ambassador of various campaigns, including Globacom[6] and Royco.

Awards

Nuhu is one of the most decorated Kannywood/Nollywood actors. He won the Best Upcoming Actor award at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards. He was nominated as the Best Actor in a supporting role at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards and won Best Actor in a film at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.[7][8]
