Early Life

As he is one of the legends of British sport shouldn't we get a little more biographical info? Is the E Piggott who I see won three Grand Nationals his father? Where was he educated? Is he married?

He is still in his marriage and has a young son, a teenager now I believe, from another relationship. He has not shirked these facts in his autobiography. See http://observer.guardian.co.uk/osm/story/0,6903,481543,00.html

Also see http://www.zen20110.zen.co.uk/SportHistWeb/SPORTS%20HISTORY/Bibliographies/Annual/cox10.html for his 1995/6 autobiography - any problem referencing this in the article?

For the researcher, www.questia.com would seem to produce results for a few more details about Lester Piggott, (for those of us not having access to his autobiography). I did a search there and it says his father's name is Keith and he trained horses (maybe he did other things too so I can't see anybody referring to him necessarily as 'a horse trainer'.)

Can't quite work out how how the name Sargent gets into this; wasn't his mother Lilian Iris Rickaby? Any suggestions? Brakn (talk) 17:20, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, are you sure of the date Ernie Piggott died - 2 sources on this www give different dates - 1941 and 1967. Brakn (talk) 23:12, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tax Affairs

Shouldn't the article have more information about Lester Piggot's tax affairs, as this is what he is best known for after being a jockey, he is notorious for going to gaol for tax evasion. Franny-K 16:41, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Heart Attack?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=455081&in_page_id=1811 and http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/horse_racing/6658355.stm report that he has suffered a heart attack and is in intensive care. Would this information be of any use in the article?

Winners

The Dick Francis bio has a complete list of all of LP's winners running to nearly 100 pages: it says British flats wins 4,349 British hurdles 20 Overseas wins (minimum) 822 Total wins 5,191. What is the source in the article. Yes, his father was the National winning jockey. I should try and add info from the book. 88888 13:39, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Though the book was published before his first retirement so doesn't include later winners 88888 21:53, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did a search at www.questia.com and it says his father's name is Keith and he trained horses (maybe he did other things too) but the jockey I see at British jump racing Champion Jockey is Ernie Piggott. Is this the jockey you're referring to?
--User:Brenont 18:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

... and Lester Piggott was British flat racing Champion Jockey 11 times between 1960 and 1982, Keith Piggott is British jump racing Champion Trainer 1962-3. Keith would seem to be the trainer father then and he is also mentioned under Ely Racecourse. There's a Jockey Keith Piggott (this would be the National winning referenced by User 88888) and Trainer Charles Piggott for a 1939 winner under Champion Hurdle. Maybe someone can sort out the four Piggotts to incorporate into this article.

I've added in a section, referencing the Observer article and also a reference book I have. My aim was to show his family background and connections to other racing families. Please feel free to chop it around if you want.Bcp67 05:44, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:LesterPiggottVHS.jpg

Image:LesterPiggottVHS.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I notice that many of the horses listed in his major victories have their own Wiki pages, but are not linked to these.46.7.85.68 (talk) 16:23, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
