  • Comment: There were a few improvements since the last decline, but there where even more areas where it's actually worse. "Early athleisure pioneer" I didn't see any sources that claim Number Lab was a "pioneer", it's a pretty grand claim to make. Btw, I moved the page from it's original name for much the same reasons. Number Lab

Number Lab was an early athleisure fashion brand,[1] having been recognized for its contribution to the category by being chosen as a finalist for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation[2] award and in the International Woolmark Prize competition[3][4] (in the menswear category). In 2012, Number Lab was selected to sit on the Council of Fashion Designer's of America (CFDA) fashion program in 2012 alongside CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Johnathan Simikhai, Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award Winner Timo Weiland and Project Runway's Daniel Vosovic.[5][6][7]

Early athleisure brand - contribution to men's fashion

Number Lab originally launched under the trade name 429 Life in 2004[8][9] and changed its brand name to Number Lab in 2008.[8] At that time, RLX, Zegna Sport, Prada Sport and Number Lab (429) existed in the nascent "athleisure" sector.[1][10][8] Number Lab was nominated and selected as a finalist for the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation[2] award for the menswear category and the International Woolmark Prize competition.[3][4]

In 2012, Number Lab was chosen to sit on the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) fashion incubator[11][12][5][6][7] in company with CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Johnathan Simikhai, Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award Winner Timo Weiland, Burkman Bros and Project Runway's Daniel Vosovic.[6][7] Other notable CFDA program members include Prabal Gurung, Bibhu Mohapatra and Waris Ahluwalia-House of Waris.[13]

The brand was editorialized in GQ;[14] Esquire;[15] The New York Times;[16] Vogue;[17] New York Magazine;[18] The Wall Street Journal;[19] Forbes;[6][20] Style.com; Women's Wear Daily (WWD);[21][22] among others. The brand's designs were featured on athletes and celebrities including Neil Patrick Harris,[23] Josh Duhamel,[24] Evan Longoria,[25] Harrison Ford,[9] Chris Pine[26] and Matt Bohmer.[27] In 2012, Annie Leibowitz photographed Number Lab designs on actor Jonathan Groff for a two-page feature in the July issue of Vanity Fair.[28]

Number Lab hosted presentations and runway shows during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week[22][29] which were held at venues in New York City including Milk Studios[22][30] and The Standard Hotel.[31][32] Number Lab also collaborated with corporate partners Gillette,[33][34][35] W Hotels[36] and M·A·C Cosmetics to co-finance its runway shows.[33] In 2011, Number Lab was invited to show at Aspen Fashion Week[37][38] and in 2012, E! Entertainment Network covered the company's Fall-Winter 2012 runway show at Milk Studios.[39] In 2011, the company was recognized by GQ Magazine for opening its first brick-and-mortar location in New York City.[40][41]
