Stacy Layne Matthews is the stage name of Stacy Jones, an American drag queen and transgender activist, best known for competing on the third season of RuPaul's Drag Race.

Early life

Matthews was born Ron Jones on July 19, 1984[1] in Robeson County, North Carolina.[2] She is of Lumbee descent.[3] She took theater classes in high school, and started drag for Halloween by one of her cousins.[4]

Career

Matthews was announced as one of thirteen contestants for season three of RuPaul's Drag Race on January 24, 2011.[5] She was placed in the bottom two in episode five and won a lip sync to "Meeting in the Ladies Room" by Klymaxx against India Ferrah.[6] She won the second annual "Snatch Game" challenge in episode six, playing as Mo'Nique.[7] She was eliminated one episode later after losing a lip sync to "Knock On Wood" by Amii Stewart against eventual third place queen Alexis Mateo.[8]

Matthews appeared as an audience member on the season eight grand finale.[9] She will appear again on Drag Race in the second episode of the fourth all stars season, as part of the main challenge.[10]

Outside of Drag Race, Matthews appeared in a season seven episode of Teen Mom OG, "Runways, Rehab and Retail" in January 2018, giving runway advice to Farrah Abraham and her daughter.[11][12]

Matthews was named Miss Illusion Continental Plus in 2013, a prelim to Miss Continental Plus.[13] She was crowned Miss Southeast UsofA at Large in 2018.[14]

Music

Matthews was featured with Manila Luzon on the song "Heather" by The AAA Girls (Alaska, Courtney Act and Willam) in 2017.[15] A music video premiered on August 18, 2017.[16]

Personal life

After Drag Race, Jones has came out as a transgender woman.[18][19] Her drag daughter is Thundora Thighs.[20]
