101 Dalmatians: The Series

101 Dalmatian Street is an animated children's television series produced by Passion Animation Studios.[4] The series is loosely based on the Hundred and One Dalmatians novel by Dodie Smith, and its film franchise by Walt Disney.[3] It is the second TV series, following 101 Dalmatians: The Series, to be based on the franchise.

The series follows a large family of 101 dalmatians who live without human supervision in the titular address in Camden Town, London.[1][2]

Plot

101 Dalmatian Street centers around a large family of 101 dalmatians whose names begin with the letter "D". The parents, Doug and Delilah, are descendants of Pongo and Perdita,[5] and they often leave the eldest siblings Dylan and Dolly in charge when they are busy at work. They live by themselves at the titular address who live in Camden Town, London in the 21st century[1][2] with no human supervision, as their owner Dodie Smith, an eccentric billionare, left them his house and went to live on an island.[5]

Production

101 Dalmatian Street is based on a pitch by Anttu Harlin and Joonas Utti of Finland's Gigglebug Entertainment to Disney's original animation team in London. The team developed the plot with Passion Animation Studios, which produces the series.[3] A portion of the animation was done by Atomic Cartoons, a Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada-based studio.[2]

The creators claimed at the Annecy film festival that they purposefully never watched the direct-to-DVD sequels, the live-action movie, or 101 Dalmatians: The Series, and only watched the original movie. They often had to cheat when it came down to keeping up with 99 dogs, so there are some shots where the number of puppies go way beyond 101.[5]

The series is directed by Miklos Weigert, and Maria O'Loughlin is the head writer. Cara Speller serves as the executive producer.[1] A second season is currently being planned.[10]

Episodes

The first season will have 20 22-minute episodes. The series has also been commissioned for 10 2-minute shorts, and 5 22-minute specials.[1]
