It was announced in January 2019 that Christopher Nolan's next film, described as being an event film, was set for release on July 17, 2020.[1] In March, John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki were cast.[2][3] Pattinson revealed that the script is being kept so secretive that he had only read it once, and was locked into a room to read it.[4]

Filming began in May 2019 and will take place in seven countries, including the UK, Estonia, India and some other planned countries.[5][6][7][8] The movie is shot in a combination of 70mm film and IMAX.[9] In May 2019, the title was revealed as Tenet, and additional cast members Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh were announced.[10]

On May 22, it was announced that Academy Award-winning composer Ludwig Göransson will be handling the film's score, making it the first Nolan film since The Prestige to not be scored by Nolan's frequent collaborator Hans Zimmer. Also, it is the first Nolan film since Batman Begins to not be edited by Lee Smith, as he is unavailable due to his work on 1917. Nolan hired editor Jennifer Lame to replace him.[11][12]
