Plastique Tiara is the stage name of Duc Tran,[1] a Vietnamese-American drag queen and singer. She is known for competing in the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race, as well as collaborating with several YouTube makeup artists.

Early life

Tran was born in Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City. His family moved to the United States when he was 11 years old. He started doing drag when he was 18.[2] His drag mother is Alyssa Edwards, and he is a member of the drag haus of Edwards.[3][4]

Career

Tiara first attempted to audition for a season of America's Next Top Model as a male model. His pictures were reposted on Tyra Banks's social media.[5]

She appeared in YouTube videos for Patrick Starrr since 2018.[6][7][8] Tiara did a drag transformation on James Charles in March 2019.[9][10]

Tiara had approximately 250,000 Instagram followers before being announced on Drag Race.[11]

RuPaul's Drag Race

Tiara was announced to be competing on the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race on January 24, 2019.[12] In episode three, she was part of the first ever six-way lip sync in the show's history.[13] Tiara won the main runway sewing challenge in episode seven.[14] Two episodes later, she was eliminated after losing a lip sync of Fantasia's "Hood Boy" against Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.[15][16] Tiara reached one million followers after the season.[17]

Anna Quintana from Distractify described her as "the breakout star of the VH1 series... [She] has been slaying the competition — and we're sure has more tricks up her sleeves."[18] Heading into episode three, Gold Derby readers ranked her as the third most likely to win the series after Brooke Lynn Hytes and A’Keria C. Davenport.[19]

Music

The week of her elimination, Tiara released her first single, "Irresistible", on April 26, 2019.[20][21] A music video was released on the same day.[22]

Personal life

Tran resides in Dallas, Texas, as of 2019.[23] Outside of drag, he works as a hairstylist and uses human hair. He has created wigs for other Drag Race alum, including Aquaria.[24] Tran cites Vietnamese pop culture as inspiration to his drag aesthetic, including Minh Tuyết, which Tuyết acknowledged.[25]
