Marriages
This article used to say he was married to Judy Tenuta, which has since been removed. He's also had 2 other wives and is currently married to one of them. Why is this missing? Why was Judy removed to begin with?
Hehe
Emo Phillips is the only REAL emo person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.173.54.250 (talk) 00:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Soltanec or Philips?
Why does the article use his birth name instead of his stage name, which is what he's almost universally known as? Is this a stylistic issue for Wikipedia, or just for this article? -- nae'blis (talk) 17:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- It should use his stage name and mention his birth name. Jason Quinn (talk) 16:47, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Emo has asked me to remove his birth name from this article, but I'm guessing that removing valid information is generally frowned upon. True? Is there a special case for a living person who wants a personal detail removed? Ken Laws (talk) 01:31, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
8 Out Of 10 Cats
An internet forum of people, who seem to be fairly evenly split between finding him unfunny (on the show, at least), liking him and generally being baffled by him (in fact, it seems the majority were baffled) does not count as the entire British public, nor does it mean he was poorly receieved. Unless someone can come up with more conclusive evidence of his performance being 'poorly receieved', I'm removing it. 80.6.98.250 13:02, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
That list of jokes...
As much as I enjoyed reading them, it doesn't strike me as something that belongs in an encyclopedia entry. Anyone else agree? --Foot Dragoon 02:05, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Why not?
- A long list might be un-encyclopedic, but a couple of samples seems appropriate to give the reader a sense of his form of humor. I've therefore redone that section with descriptions of his style and a couple of representative examples, rather than a long list.CoramVobis 19:36, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

The way he talks
I saw him on TV once, and it sounded like he was mentally retarded or something. Why doesn't it mention anything like that on this page? ---SilentRAGE! 09:03, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
He doesn't speak in that high voice all the time. The falsetto is used for effect when he's on stage, and presumably only then. I've met him before while gardening; he was out on a walk and I called out his stage name "Emo! Emo!" Naturally, he came over and chatted with my mother for a bit. (Side note: I grew up in a house on the same block as his late mother's, where he would occasionally stay - supposedly, pictures of faces in his bedroom windows would indicate that he was home.) 71.155.233.148 22:23, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I met him this past weekend. Not only is that not his real voice, but the "Emo hair" is a wig. He's got short grey hair now. RevAladdinSane 07:22, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- It may still be stated in the article that he performs his comedy routine in a falsetto voice for effect. -- Kainaw(what?) 04:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
- Take a look at this video [1]. He clearly does the falsetto voice for effect, but what about that tic with his hand up near his face? Does he have Tourettes'? I'm curious. Fishyfred 01:36, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- He's probably half in character because he's on camera. When I met him in Boston he wasn't like that, and at the time he wasn't there for a gig. But he always does that when he's in character. Very nice guy by the way. --Dp67 | QSO | Sandbox | UBX's 18:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- It's such a notable part of his stage persona, that I went ahead and added something about it; did my best to give a well-rounded. NPOV, idea of what his act comes over like to someone who's never seen him before. 208.251.140.163 (talk)
Photo
The current photo, while fitting all the usage criteria, is not really representative of the Emo Philips that most people would recognise. Is there another photo which could also be used, something more resembling this http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a145/alanspach/emo_philips_comedian_6x9-72.jpg? Yeanold Viskersenn 13:30, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree. I did not recognize him at all as the person on the left. I remember him as a very strange person with bangs, and an almost feminine haircut. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.72.56.74 (talk) 00:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Name
How unfortunate to be called "Emo" in this day and age. Nukleoptra —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 18:43, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
- Is it his real name? --Muna (talk) 08:51, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Well. The internet is a mixed blessing i guess. 95.109.102.252 (talk) 21:18, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
Just For Laughs
If anyone has any info on his appearances at the Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival, please post it. I think he has appeared twice, once early in his career, and once more recently. (it is supposedely the largest comedy festival in the world, and may have been his big break, but I am not certain) --RogueMountie 20:24, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have AVIs of him as far back as '83 (and one from the "hasty pudding" in '87)...does the JFL festival pre-date that? 78.86.230.62 (talk) 22:43, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Updates needed
I added Philips' most recent (2001) album to the discography list, but don't have enough info to do more updates. Anyone got more current information? Cancilla (talk) 06:28, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- I have updated the 2001 album, and all the others, with track lists & times. - Salamurai (talk) 00:47, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- Needs his role on Adventure Time. 2601:82:C002:5CC7:155C:D068:83B5:37ED (talk) 00:16, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
