My client Bertrand Piccard asks for changes to the Wikipedia page about him.

Opening paragraph

- Update the first sentence in the opening paragraph to ‘Bertrand Piccard FRSGS (born 1 March 1958) is a Swiss explorer, psychiatrist and environmentalist.’^[1] This better reflects his occupations.

- In the opening paragraph, please change ‘co-pilot’ to ‘pilot’ as he and M. Borschberg never flew together. Technically ‘co-pilot’ is incorrect.

- He would also like for the introductory paragraph to mention his other activities. Please use this for second paragraph. ‘He is the Founder and Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, an environmental organization which aims to promote sustainable solutions to the climate crisis. He is Chairman of the Winds of Hope Foundation, which fights for the eradication of the Noma disease in Africa. The UN has called him ‘a tireless champion for sustainable energy and action on climate change.’^[2]

Biography > Solar Impulse

- The first paragraph should say ‘Piccard began construction during 2007 and conducted brief test flights during 2009’ in the second sentence. The current sentence says he conducted test flights in 2008.

- Third paragraph, third sentence. ‘Originally conceived as a one-seater, the design of Solar Impulse was altered to allow two. The first intercontinental flight was made by Piccard and Borschberg together.’ This sentence is incorrect. The plane was never conceived to allow two pilots. Piccard and Borschberg took turns in the cockpit but never flew together. Please update to ‘The plane was conceived as a one-seater. Piccard and Borschberg took turns piloting Solar Impulse. The first intercontinental flight was made by Piccard.’

- The same paragraph should be updated in the last sentence, specifically the year from 2009 to 2006. It should say ‘By 2006, he had assembled a multi-disciplinary team of fifty specialists from six countries.’^[3]^[4]

- Add this to the end of the same paragraph. ‘Among Piccard's most important flights were the Pacific crossing from Kalaeloa Airport, Hawaii to Moffett Field in California, and the Atlantic crossing from New York to Seville, each of which lasted more than 2 days.’^[5]^[6]

- Add ‘flying 43’000km without fuel’^[7] in first sentence of paragraph number 5.

- Change ‘International Committee of Clean Technologies’ to the correct title ‘World Alliance for Clean Technologies’.^[8]

After Solar Impulse add a new subsection called Solar Impulse Foundation.

- This is the first paragraph in the new section. ‘Following his successful round-the-world solar flight with Solar Impulse, Bertrand Piccard launched the Solar Impulse Foundation. Its goal is to select innovative solutions to the environmental crisis and promote them to decision-makers in order to accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy. To select these clean solutions, the Solar Impulse Foundation created the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label in May 2018.’

- This is the second paragraph. ‘This certification is attributed following a strict assessment process made by a pool of independent experts, and it recognizes both the economic profitability and environmental impact of products, processes and services. The Label is awarded to solutions which contribute to the achievement of one of the five Sustainable Development Goals related to water, energy, consumption and production, industry, cities and communities.’

- This is the third paragraph. ‘The goal of the Solar Impulse Foundation is to label 1000 clean and profitable solutions to the environmental crisis.’^[9]^[10]

The Piccard Family

- Please use as an opening paragraph in The Piccard Family. ‘Several of Piccard's extended family were also explorers. His grandfather, Auguste Piccard, was a physicist, undersea explorer, and inventor of a helium-powered balloon that took him over 50,000 feet in 1931, making him the first person to enter the stratosphere and to see the Earth's curvature. Bertrand Piccard's father Jacques was the first to reach the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest point in the ocean, along with US submarine lieutenant Don Walsh.’^[11]

Awards and honours

- Named a “Champion of the Earth” by the United Nations in 2012^[2]

- UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador^[12]
