Undo Redirect

I don't think this should be a redirect any longer. June 18th is a big event in China now, rivalling Singles' Day for which there is an article. Reesorville (talk) 17:43, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't quite agree. Singles' Day is not only about the shopping festival. The article existed before Alibaba held its first shopping festival on that day in 2009, see this revision. It has a significant cultural impact in China before Alibaba used it. 618 is just the anniversary of the company which is not significant to the public if there were no shopping festivals. Thus, it is not comparable to Singles' Day. Sun8908Talk 19:39, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are many mentions of 618 in Chinese newspapers and foreign newspapers, including in headlines and bylines of articles. The sheer volume of sales that occurs makes it a significant event. I could compare it to Black Friday too. I will concede that singles day has a cultural component as well in addition to its shopping, but I still argue that 618 is a notable event. Reesorville (talk) 00:04, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the sources in the article now are enough to prove notability though. For example these may prove notability. Sun8908Talk 10:14, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just adding to this talk on redirecting as i just came across this page and added a few more notable sources. from looking for sources I would argue that 618 is notable enough for its own page, although i could see the argument for it to be merged into JD.com article in a similar fashion to Prime day in the respective Amazon Prime article as 618 is very similar. Seigerman (talk) 19:50, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Jingdong created it, but it is now used by other companies as well quite extensively including taobao, tmall, etc. Is Prime day used by other retailers outside of amazon? Reesorville (talk) 12:36, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This article is important, but requires more editing

I think this article is quite important because its influence has a wide range.
