Rai Uno ? British television of course. We should not include everything that can be viewed in uk. In that sense BBC is an Italian TV.

It depends how it is dealt with for instance, some international stations have 'variants' depending on country, especially the news stations, should they be included ?. It's hard to tell with some stations if you're getting the international station or a localized one. Some stations such as the Arab ones I'm fairly sure are the same as broadcast in the middle-east so I've left them out, but with others it's hard to decide.

I have reverted "Channel 5" to "five", which is the current branding of the station, but I'm not sure what it really should say. Either page title could be ambiguous, though neither is in use at the moment. --rbrwr

"five" is bound to need disambiguation as an article title. I wonder what their company name is. -- Tarquin

Channel 5 Broadcasting Limited (with a numeral 5). --rbrwr

What's TG4 doing listed as a British channel? The Irish-speaking population of the UK must be rather minuscule! -- Arwel

Related WikiProject

I have created a wikiproject for British television channels at Wikipedia:WikiProject_British_TV_channels if you would like to improve the quality of all the articles linked of this page please come along and help. thanks MrWeeble 20:41, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)

There's a problem with Setanta Link

The link goes to a article about Cúchulainn.

It's the Sports Channel not Irish mythology

Please someone sort it out.

List organisation

I am thinking of changing the main list to be broken up alphabetically to aid navigation and editing (for those of use that like to edit sections rather than the whole page)

The problem with this is that it will make the TOC huge and due to the other sections replacing it with once of the compact TOCs would hide stuff. Any thoughts? MrWeeble Talk Brit tv 21:16, 30 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK, been thinking about the above and unless someone persuades me otherwise, I am going to substantially rewrite this page, primarily by removing information that exists elsewhere, with links in the See Also section. Some of these additional section I have already created, and added more information than just the list

  • National Analogue Terrestrial Stations
Information duplicated at Analogue television in the United Kingdom
  • National Digital Terrestrial Stations
Information duplicated at List of UK Digital Terrestrial television channels
  • Television stations
Obviously keep as this is the main purpose of this article
  • Regional channels
Mainly duplicated on Restricted Service Licence. The ITV regions are at ITV. These channels should also be in main list
  • Student Television Stations
Only has one link, I'd be happy for it to be in Television stations
  • Defunct channels
I think this should be it's own list
  • Future channels
Keep as a section
    • New channels
merge into parent
    • Imported American channels
Can find no source for any plans for these to launch. Fox added: 19 November 2004 [1], HBO & Weather Channel added: 28 April 2004 [2]
Unless a source can be found, just going to delete this section
  • International BBC channels
Duplicated at International BBC television channels
  • Scottish Television Channels
I see little merit in this section. The BBC considers those two BBC "channels" to be regional/national variations rather than channels in their own right (unlike BBC 2W and BBC Two NI) STV is just another ITV franchise, leaving just Tele-G. Which can be added to the main list again

(BBC 2W and BBC Two NI are barely channels in their own right. I would say BBC One Scotland has as much, if not more variation from the national network than either of those two)

Where the links live ;)

Operated by...

Some of the channels have 'operated by ...' next to them. Should this be done for all channels, or should it be removed?

Listed by owner / operator

Do people think a List of British television channels by owner (or similaly entitled page) would be a useful page? I've got a mockup in my userspace at User:NeilTarrant/channels, its far from complete, by already I think there are some interesting revelations about how channels one might not expect are related in some way. --Neo 14:59, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TFN - The Fight Network

I removed the above channel from the list. From the research I can gather, The Fight Network is a real channel (with a Wikipedia article), but it is a Canadian channel, which does not broadcast in the UK. --tgheretford (talk) 12:17, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Table

I was thinking, should we make a table for this page, something like the one used in the List of channels on Sky Digital in the UK and Ireland article? Having the headings: "Channel Name", "Freeview Channel No.", "Sky Digital Channel No.", "Virgin Media Channel No.", or something similar, with maybe "Channel Owner" as well?

Former Names = Defunct

I don't see the difference between the two, so have deleted the Former Names part. Can someone add it to the Defunct table. Here is the list:
