Is the Navy Cross a significant allocade? Seems like an assertion of importance to me. Skomorokh 05:16, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- This essay, WP:MILMOS#NOTE, on the notability of military personnel says that someone who receives the country's highest honor is notable. The Navy Cross is #2 on the list for the US Navy. So the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history does not consider them automatically notable. I would think they would be notable if there was something other than the event that they were awarded the Navy Cross for. In this case that seems to be the only thing he has going for him. - Thanks for the reply, that's very helpful. As it is a very high honour in the most important military in the world, I think it qualifies as an assertion of importance. Shane Patton did not receive a Navy Cross. The post is erroneous. The only individuals to receive the Navy Cross for actions during Operation Redwing were Danny Dietz, Matthew Axelson and Marcus Luttrell, the men who actually undertook the mission (the officer in charge, Michael P.
