DYK for 2023 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team

On 26 August 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 2023 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the 2023 US FIBA Basketball World Cup team is the first American national team of NBA players without an All-NBA player? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/2023 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, 2023 United States FIBA Basketball World Cup team), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

In protest "of"

Are you quite sure? I know American English is weird, but really... I can't find anything to say that this is correct, even in US English. Deb (talk) 08:10, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb: I'm not expert enough to find the correct rule, but this search shows plenty of "in protest of" w.r.t. Kaepernick.—Bagumba (talk) 08:28, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So is "in protest at" not correct in US English? Deb (talk) 14:47, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Deb: I don't recall seeing it before.—Bagumba (talk) 15:02, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators' newsletter – September 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (August 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, TFAs will be automatically semi-protected the day before it is on the main page and through the day after.
  • A discussion at WP:VPP about revision deletion and oversight for dead names found that [s]ysops can choose to use revdel if, in their view, it's the right tool for this situation, and they need not default to oversight. But oversight could well be right where there's a particularly high risk to the person. Use your judgment.

Technical news

Arbitration

  • The SmallCat dispute case has closed. As part of the final decision, editors participating in XfD have been reminded to be careful about forming local consensus which may or may not reflect the broader community consensus. Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Miscellaneous

  • Tech tip: The "Browse history interactively" banner shown at the top of Special:Diff can be used to easily look through a history, assemble composite diffs, or find out what archive something wound up in.
