Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by AlavienJasper (talk | contribs) at 17:15, 28 December 2023 (→‎Uncontroversial technical requests). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=reason for move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Technical requests

Uncontroversial technical requests

  • Malayali (currently a redirect to Malayalis)  Malayalis (move · discuss) – As per Wikipedia's General Naming Conventions, an appropriate title for a page on ethnicities and tribes is their plural demonym. The current title of this page is the singular demonym of the ethnic group. I request for it to be changed to the plural one. AlavienJasper (talk) 17:15, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

Contested technical requests

The page was moved to the current title per an RM at Talk:Combatants_of_the_war_in_Donbas#Requested_move_23_September_2023. Open a new RM if you believe consensus has changed. I have also reverted the other move that was made by a page mover at International reactions to the war in Donbas as an undiscussed move per WP:RMUM. @EggRoll97: do you have any actual evidenced reason as to why this move and the one you've reverted shouldn't go ahead? The title of the parent article has been moved since the RM you linked above, so in a sense the situation has moved on and I don't think this is controversial myself. I can't really think of a reason to maintain disambiguation on subtopics which aren't even actually in conflict with anything else, and a full RM seems an unnecessary waste of time. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 11:25, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Amakuru: I had based my original objection on WP:NCWWW, but I will raise no objection if anyone else believes the full RM is unnecessary. EggRoll97 (talk) 22:37, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jax 0677: Per this discussion, this move does not appear to be uncontroversial. It seems that you were told to open an RM on the talk page by other experienced users. So please follow the given instructions to seek consensus. You can ping me once you've reached consensus, and I will perform this move for you. I am pinging MPGuy2824 for their opinion, as they have reverted your relevant edit. Maliner (talk) 16:55, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Reply - I just moved the discussion to the talk page. Thanks! --Jax 0677 (talk) 16:58, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
