PSLV launches

The PSLV-C51[2] is the 53rd mission of the Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) program. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-C51 is planned to be launched on 28 February 2021 with a payload of 4 satellites, including the main payload from Brazil, INPE's first indigenous built satellite Amazônia-1.[3]

Details

The PSLV-C51 is planned to be launched from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra pradesh,India. The PSLV C51 rocket will carry primary payload, Amazônia-1 and secondary payloads like Anand, SatishSat and UnitySat.

It will be the third flight of PSLV-DL,[2] having 2 strap-on boosters and will place the payloads in sun-synchronous orbits.[4]

Uniqueness of the project

The mission is unique in that its a fully commercial launch with distinction of being the first in many, as in, it will launch the first indigenous satellite of Brazil and also launch the first privately built Indian satellite by Pixxel. If successful, this will be the 50th successful launch of PSLV.[5][6]

This will be the first launch mission executed by NSIL.[7]

Launch schedule

The launch was originally scheduled for 22 February 2021, but was delayed to 28 February owing to delays in assembly of the rocket.

Mission overview

The PSLV C51 rocket has four stages; each one was self-contained, with its own propulsion system, thereby capable of functioning independently. The first and third stages used composite solid propellants, while the second stage used earth-storable liquid propellant and fourth one fitted with Solar Panels.
