Mariwan (Template:Lang-fa, ; Template:Lang-ku) also known as Qale Marīvān - "Fort Marivan"; formerly, Dezhe Shahpur (Persian: دِژ شاهپور), also Romanized as Dezhe Shāhpūr and Dezhe Shapoor)[2] is a town in – and the capital of – Marivan County, Kurdistan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 51,664, in 22,440 families.[3] [4]
The town of Mariwan is known for its two famous places, namely Falakay Penjwen and Falakay Helabje.
The dominant majority of the people of Marivan are bilingual in both Kurdish and Farsi.[5]
