magicplan is a mobile application developed by Sensopia Inc.,[1] a Canadian company, that allows users to create floor plans by using the camera of a smartphone or tablet and augmented reality (AR) technology.[2] The app facilitates the measurement and creation of floor plans by producing 2D and 3D models of indoor spaces. magicplan is available for iOS[3] and Android devices and has been used by professionals in various industries, such as architecture, real estate, and home improvement.[4]

History

magicplan was founded and developed in 2011 by Sensopia inc in Montreal, Canada. In 2016 Sensopia merged with B&O,[5] a German company conglomerate in the housing sector. Since then, magicplan holds offices in Montreal and Munich.[6] The first version of magicplan was launched in 2011 for iOS devices, and the Android version followed in 2013.[7] The app gained widespread recognition and was included in Apple's 2017 Best Apps of the Year list.[8]

Features

magicplan combines AR technology,[9] through Apple's ARKit with artificial intelligence (AI).[10] Users can capture room dimensions,[11] add objects such as furniture and appliances, and annotate the plan with additional information.[12][13]

The app includes various features, including:

  • 2D and 3D floor plan generation[14]
  • Automatic room and objects detection and measurement[15]
  • Object library with customizable items
  • Integration with other cloud storage services[16]
  • Exporting in multiple file formats (e.g., PDF, JPG, DXF, OBJ, IFC and CSV)[17]
  • Field reports including photos, 360° images, notes, custom forms, and markups[18]
  • Take-off and work estimates[19] to calculate pricing[20]
  • Collaboration tools for sharing and editing floor plans in real time
