Park In-je (Korean: 박인제 Born May 21, 1973) is a South Korean film director, television director and screenwriter. He directed Netflix original series Kingdom Season 2 (2020) and Disney+ original Moving (2023).
Career
In 2001, Park made his debut as a director and screenwriter with the short film Happy Death. Two years later, in 2003, he directed and wrote the screenplay for another short film titled The End of the Road, which garnered the grand prize at the 4th Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.[1]
While developing his screenplay about a journalist, Park stumbled upon the remarkable tale of private Yun Seok-yang, an army soldier serving in the Defense Security Command of Korea's Armed Forces. In 1990, Yun defected from his military base, clutching a floppy disk that harbored a classified roster of national figures, including former presidents, religious leaders, politicians, and social activists. This list had been illicitly investigated by the DSC. Yun's act of conscience led him to divulge the disk's contents during a press conference.[2] Inspired by Yun's narrative, the movie "Moby Dick" loosely chronicles a journalist's quest to uncover a clandestine organization that wields control over the government.[3]
In February 2021, news emerged that the collaborative production agreement between the co-producers, JTBC and Next Entertainment World had been terminated, leading to director Park In-je replaced Director Mo Wan-il as director of Disney+ Original Moving.[4][5]
