The Akron school board voted in October 2016 to build a new high school that would consolidate both Garfield and Kenmore high schools.[3] The schools will merge and be housed at the Kenmore location for the 2017–2018 school year while the new building is constructed on the Garfield site.[4] Construction of the new building is planned to begin in the fall of 2018, called Kenmore-Garfield.[5]
