Ultra Cute (うるきゅー, Urukyū, romanized as Ultra Cute) is a manga series written and illustrated Nami Akimoto. Originally serialized in Japan in Nakayoshi, the individual chapters were collected and published in nine tankōbon volumes by Kodansha between January 2000 and October 2003. The series focus on friends Ami Uzuki and Noa Kurosawa, who compete with each other over the same potential boyfriends, usually scaring them away. Until they meet friends Tomohiro Nakatsu and Tamon Okazaki, and fall in love with a separate boys. However, after Ami discovers that the boys are running their own scheme against them, Ami schemes to get revenge while trying to protect Noa.

The series is licensed for English language release in North America by Tokyopop, with the first volume released on January 10, 2006 and the final volume released on January 8, 2008. The manga is licensed in French as Urukyu. by Soleil.

Characters

  • Ami Uzuki (卯月 あみ, Uzuki Ami) The main protagonist. She is childhood friends with Noa. Ami and Noa have a tendency to like the same guy which make them compete and end up single up until now. For the first time, Ami likes a different guy from Noa. She falls in love with Tamon, while Noa falls for his best friend Tomohiro. Unfortunately, both of them are playboys. However, Ami never gives up on capturing Tamon's heart. She ends up dating Tamon and becoming his real girlfriend while there are many obstacles along the way to test their relationship.
  • Noa Kurosawa (黒沢 のあ, Kurosawa Noa) Ami's best friend and rival in love until Tamon and Tomohiro arrived in their life. She is a smart girl with a sexy body compare to Ami. She falls in love with Tomohiro. They date briefly before they break up because Tomohiro was cheating on her, However, at the end, she is together with Tomohiro again.
  • Tamon Okazaki (岡崎 多聞, Okazaki Tamon) The main object of affection of Ami. He is more playful than Tomohiro and very good looking. He has a past which makes him vow to never fall in love again.
  • Tomohiro "Hiro" Nakatsu (トモヒロ) Tamon's best friend. A smart and good looking guy. Like Tamon, he had an experience where he was disappointed and cheated by a girl, which makes him become a playboy too.
  • Mika Tsukishima (月島 ミカ, Tsukishima Mika) Tamon and Tomohiro's ex-girlfriend. She was the first person Tamon ever liked to the point that he took her away from Tomohiro, his best friend. However, she ended up cheating on him. She comes back into Tamon's life and has tried to get back together with him.
  • Hiroyuki "Chucky" Miyamura (宮村) A teacher at Ami and Noa's school. He was an old crush for both of them. He ends up helping them a lot to increase their charm and be successful with their love life.
