Cyprus was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, held in Bergen, Norway.
For 1986, the Cypriot broadcaster, the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, selected their candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest internally. They chose Elpida, then a very popular singer in Greece and the Greek diaspora, who already had experience at Eurovision, representing Greece in 1979. The song chosen to go with her was "Tora Zo," (Now I Live), composed by Peter Yiannakis, with lyrics by Yiannakis and Fivos Gavris.
At the Contest in Bergen, Elpida was the fifteenth performer on stage, following Germany and preceding Austria. At the end of judging that evening, the song received a total of 4 points, placing Cyprus last out of a field of 20 competing countries. It was the first, and so far only, occasion in which Cyprus placed last.
