V. Sekhar is an Indian film director, who has directed Tamil films. He was primarily active in the 1990s and early 2000s and is most noted for his work on family drama films.[1]

Career

Sekhar has often worked on multi-starrer family dramas portraying middle class households. In regard to his method of scripting, Sekhar has noted that he does not change his screenplay from the initial draft, and has collaborated often with comedian actors Goundamani, Vivek and Vadivelu.[2] After poor response of his directorial Aalukkoru Aasai, Sekhar then went on to produce Sarathkumar starrer Aai (2004), though the film did well Sekhar as a producer had incurred losses. He then went on to direct television serials such as Porantha Veeda Puguntha Veeda for Sun TV and Veetukku Veedu for Raj TV.

He began work on his latest venture in 2013, directing Saravana Poigai, starring his son Karl Marx in the lead role but the film remains unreleased.[3] In 2015, he was arrested for alleged idol theft.[4]

Style of work

Sekar has directed mainly family-themed drama films, and has been likened to Visu who does the same.[5]
