The Sligo Weekender is a weekly local newspaper published every Thursday in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland.
Brian McHugh founded it in 1984 as a 'free sheet' advertiser, with some local news. It contains news of interest to Sligo town and county along with the surrounding counties of Leitrim, Roscommon, South Donegal and North Mayo.
The paper's motto is "Born To Make A Difference".
According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the paper had an average weekly circulation of 6,491 for the year 2008.
Eugene McHale, Grange's police constable, also a former footballer, manager and referee, is a columnist with the Sligo Weekender.[1]

Eugene McHale moved to Sligo the previous year, 1980, and has been there ever since. A Garda in Grange, ten miles from Sligo town, he has managed various teams and is now a referee as well as a columnist with the Sligo Weekender.
