Afghanistan first competed at the Summer Olympic Games at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. In all, they sent 19 competitors, but only 13 competed.[1]

The official report shows that one of these two athletes was also a member of the field hockey squad, however it is unclear which one it was.
