D Ground is a town in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan. It is the main commercial area in Faisalabad.[1]

History

The idea of D ground was conceived in mid-1950s by the then government of West Pakistan. With immense inflow of the immigrants to Faisalabad from East Punjab, now in India, the residential requirements of city were skyrocketing. Government decided to make the barren land lying 5 km northeast of city center to convert into a modern residential area. The area was named Peoples Colony and D ground was designed to be one of the main central market of this colony. Peoples colony has an estimated area of 10 km2.

D Ground is home to many branded stores and shopping malls. Besides the shopping D ground also hosts the Radio Station of Faisalabad, Holiday Inn Hotel, Royalton Hotel and numerous eat out places like KFC, Pizza Hut, Gloria Jeans Coffees, McDonald's, Real Taste, Lal Qila and Sams. It is known for its upscale business centers, urban shopping centres, modern restaurants and cafes. It is also known as the hub of the contemporary fashion and cuisine industry in Faisalabad.

Eid market

During Ramzan, before the Eid ul Fitr; and before the Eid ul Azha, a large but temporary Eid market is set up by local merchants and traders. These markets sell all sorts of items necessary for Eid shopping including, bangles, costumes, dresses, shoes, ornaments, decorative and sweets.

The ground

The ground in the middle of the market, the hollow area of letter D of English, is divided in two halves. One half is occupied by the Radio Pakistan Faisalabad Station, whereas the other half is a green area.
