John Madejski Academy (formerly Thamesbridge College) is an academy in Reading, Berkshire, England. It specialises in sport and has a capacity about 700 students aged 11–18.[1]


History

The school was formerly named Thamesbridge college, and before that it was named Ashmead.[citation needed] Alumni includes Ricky Gervais and Iain Waite.[citation needed] The new buildings were opened in 2010, with Sir John Madejski cutting the ribbon.

Architecture

The building was designed by international architecture firm Wilkinson Eyre[2] and it was shortlisted for an award at the World Architecture Festival 2008.[3]
