Cherry is an upcoming American crime drama film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo with a written screenplay by Jessica Goldberg and Angela Russo-Otstot. It is based on the novel of the same name by Nico Walker. The film stars Tom Holland in the lead role, along with a supporting cast that includes Ciara Bravo, Bill Skarsgård and Jack Reynor.

Premise

An Army medic with PTSD becomes addicted to opioids and starts robbing banks to pay for the addiction.

Cast

Production

Anthony and Joe Russo's production company AGBO purchased the film rights to the novel in August 2018, beating out offers from Warner Bros., which would've had James Franco directing, and Sony,[2][3] with the Russos set to direct the film.[4] In March 2019, Tom Holland entered talks to star in the film.[5][6] Ciara Bravo, Bill Skarsgård, Jack Reynor, Jeff Wahlberg, Kyle Harvey, Forrest Goodluck and Michael Gandolfini were added to the cast in October.[7] Pooch Hall would be cast in an undisclosed role in December.[8] Netflix is in early talks to distribute the film.[9]

Filming was initially reported to begin on July 15, 2019.[10][11][12] Filming began on October 8, 2019 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Filming wrapped on January 20, 2020.[citation needed]
