Nanya Technology Corporation is a plastics investment company under the Formosa Plastics Group, founded on March 4, 1995. The company has since focused on dynamic random access memory (DRAM) products and semiconductor fabrication. Presently, it has a 12-inch fab dedicated to the development, design, manufacture and sales of DRAM, and has established overseas sales offices in the United States, Europe, Japan, and China. Its largest shareholder is South Asia Plastics. Currently they have around 2,500 employees. A 12-inch fab (Fab 3A) at the production base is located in Nanlin Technology Park, Taishan District, New Taipei City, with monthly production capacity of 55,000. As for 1st quarter 2020, Nanya is ranked the top 5 DRAM manufacturer by revenue.[1]
History
On August 17, 2000, Nanya Technology was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under the stock code 2408.
In 2003, Nanya formed a joint venture with Infineon and established Inotera, a DRAM production company.[2]
In 2008, Nanya signed a joint venture agreement with Micron.[3]
In 2015, Nanya started full production of its LPDDR3 4GB products.
In 2017, after years of licensing from Micron, Nanya signaled its desire to develop 10 nm nodes in-house.[4] It has also started its pilot run of 20 nm nodes in March.
In 2020, Nanya aims to produce their 10 nm-class of DRAM chips by the end of the year.[5]
Controversy
In October 2015, (former) Nanya president Charles Kao[6] retired and in July 2019 became CEO of Tsinghua Unigroup.[7]
In March 2020, a holding company backed by Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) claimed Micron Technology Inc and Nanya Technology Corp infringed on its patents, yet were invalidated by a federal appeals court.[8]
