Dargaz County (Persian: شهرستان درگز) is a county in Razavi Khorasan Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Dargaz. Its prestigious ancient name of Abivard (the Apavartene in the works of the ancient geographers, Ptolemy and Strabo) was changed just a few years ago, believing wrongly that it is a later Arabic name.[citation needed] Apavarta simply meant "rosewater" in Parthian and Old Persian.
At the 2006 census, the county's population was 73,439, in 19,435 families.[2] The county has four districts: Central District, Chapeshlu District, Lotfabad District, and Now Khandan District. The county has four cities: Dargaz, Chapeshlu, Lotfabad, and Now Khandan.
