Bulgaria was represented by Mariana Popova in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song "Let Me Cry", written by Elina Gavrilova and composed by Dani Milev. The song is only the country's second entry, after they débuted at the contest last year.

Before Eurovision

EuroBGVision 2006

EuroBGVision 2006 was the national final format developed by BNT in order to select Bulgaria's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. The competition consisted of a semi-final and a final on 25 February and 11 March 2006 respectively. Both shows took place at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, hosted by Dragomir Simeonov.[1]

Format

The competition consisted of a semi-final on 25 February 2006 and a final on 11 March 2006. Twenty-four songs competed in the semi-final and the top twelve qualified by the votes of an expert jury. Twelve songs consisting of the twelve semi-final qualifiers competed in the final, where public televoting determined the winner. Voting lines were open for 10 minutes.

Competing entries

Artists and songwriters were able to submit their entries until 23 January 2006. BNT received 126 entries, and an expert committee selected twenty-four songs for the competition.[2] The list of competing artists and songs were released on 4 February 2006.[3] After the list was released, Vanya Kostova & Boyan Mihaylov withdrew from the competition. As a result of this, Plamen Petrev & Angel participated in the national final instead.[4]

Semi-final

The semi-final took place on 3 February 2007. Twenty-four songs competed and the top twelve entries as determined by an expert jury advanced to the final.[5]
