A Futile and Stupid Gesture is an upcoming American biographical film based on Josh Karp's book of the same name, directed by David Wain, and written by Michael Colton and John Aboud. The film stars Will Forte as comedy writer Doug Kenney during the rise and fall of National Lampoon.

Production
In March 2016, Will Forte joined the cast of the film portraying the role of Doug Kenney while David Wain will direct the film, from a screenplay by Michael Colton and John Aboud. Peter Principato and Jonathan Stern are producing. Ed Helms is executive producing alongside Ted Hamm and Sean McKittrick.[1] Later that month, Martin Mull joined the cast of the film.[2] In April 2016, Domhnall Gleeson joined the cast of the film as Henry Beard.[3] Joel McHale joined the cast as Chevy Chase.[4] That same month, Matt Walsh joined the cast as Matty Simmons.[5] Rick Glass and Jon Daly joined the cast as Harold Ramis and Bill Murray respectively.[6] Seth Green joined the cast as Christopher Guest.[7] Natasha Lyonne joined the cast as Anne Beatts.[8] Emmy Rossum joined the cast as Kathryn Walker.[9] It was later revealed that Finn Wittrock joined the cast.[10]
Filming
Principal photography began on April 14, 2016, in Los Angeles, California.[11][12]
