Baruten is a Local Government Area in Kwara State, Nigeria, sharing a long border with the Republic of Benin. Its headquarters are in the town of Kosubosu. It has an area of 9,749 km² and a population of 209,459 at the 2006 census.

The postal code of the area is 242.[1]

The Baruten LGA includes a part of the Borgu Game Reserve.[2]
