Bouvines is a commune in the Nord department in northern France, and a village, on the French-Belgian frontier between Lille and Tournay.[1]
It was the site of the Battle of Bouvines, on 27 July 1214. It was fought between the forces of Philip Augustus, king of France, and those of the coalition formed against him, of which the principal members were the emperor and King John of England.[1]
