Category for Industrial warfare?
[edit]A side discussion started at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2023_August_10#Category:Civil_wars_post-1945 about this late-modern category, which currently states that it is for the eta of Industrial warfare, roughly 1815–1945.
I can't object to "Late modern" parenting C20 and C21, but it would be a loss to have no category for Industrial warfare, preceding Category:Warfare post-1945 from the start of the Atomic Age. I suggest adding a subcat for Warfare of the Industrial era, to which other articles could be added e.g. Total war and Motorized infantry. – Fayenatic London 22:11, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: we do not usually categorize by industrial era, undoubtedly because its beginning and end are rather fuzzy and dependent on which part of the world you are considering. The articles you mention fit Category:Warfare of the late modern period well too. Marcocapelle (talk) 09:49, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
- I've just realised that then category description about "Industrial warfare (roughly 1815 to 1945)" was a hangover from a 2021 CFD in which the category was already renamed from Category:Warfare of the Industrial era, see Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2021_February_20#Warfare_of_the_Industrial_era. It had been at that name for 14 years since Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_January_6#Warfare_by_era, and was previously "Category:Industrial warfare" matching the article name, but in 2021 nobody argued to keep the category. So I will let that suggestion go.
- The question connects with whether we should keep the succeeding post-1945 military history categories, of which ten remain, [1] or split them all to C20 & C21. When initially created in 2004 there would not have been much to populate c21 categories but, now that the latter are well-populated, the post-1945 categories are probably obsolete. – Fayenatic London 14:01, 20 August 2023 (UTC)
