History
[edit]Cricket has been ingrained in the fabric of Daman's community for generations. What began as a recreational pursuit evolved into a passionate endeavor, with cricket matches becoming a focal point of local gatherings and celebrations.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the fervor for cricket reached new heights with the rise of the Javan Tandel Cricket Club. This club, led by visionary individuals and fueled by the collective spirit of the community, elevated cricket from a mere pastime to a symbol of pride for Daman. Their matches not only entertained spectators but also inspired young cricketers to dream big.
The Javan Tandel Cricket Club's influence extended beyond the boundaries of Daman, attracting teams from neighboring regions eager to test their skills against the formidable squad. Their success on the field and their commitment to the sport laid the groundwork for the formation of the Daman District Cricket Association (DDCA).
In the early 1990s, recognizing the need for a formal governing body to oversee cricket activities in the region, passionate individuals from the Javan Tandel Cricket Club and other cricket enthusiasts came together to establish the DDCA. On October 24, 1994, the association was officially registered under the law, marking a significant milestone in Daman's cricketing journey.
Since its inception, the DDCA has been a catalyst for cricket development in Daman, providing opportunities for aspiring cricketers to hone their skills and showcase their talent on a broader stage. Through its affiliation with the Gujarat Cricket Association[3](GCA) in 2014, the DDCA gained access to resources and support systems that further bolstered its efforts to promote the sport.
Over the years, cricket in Daman has evolved from a grassroots movement to a structured ecosystem, with the DDCA at its helm. The association's commitment to fostering talent, promoting inclusivity, and upholding the spirit of the game continues to shape the cricketing landscape of Daman, inspiring generations of cricketers to follow their passion and make their mark on the sport.
Affiliation and Development
[edit]Affiliated with the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) since November 15, 2014, the DDCA has been actively involved in the development of cricket infrastructure in Daman. As part of the New Area Development Scheme (NADP) initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Daman boasts two cricket stadiums capable of hosting day and night matches.
Future Plans and Development
[edit]The merger of Daman and Diu with Dadra and Nagar Haveli presents an exciting opportunity for cricket development in the region. With support from benefactors and funding from industrial sectors, including tourism and manufacturing, the DDCA aims to capitalize on the talent and competitiveness offered by the unified territory.
The association plans to affiliate clubs and institutions, fostering a structured framework for cricket development. Collaborations with hospitality and manufacturing industries, along with partnerships with government bodies, aim to enhance infrastructure and support cricket activities.
