Doodlebug is a 1997 short psychological thriller film by Christopher Nolan.[1]
Plot
The story concerns a grungy[ambiguous] man, in a filthy apartment. He is anxious and paranoid, trying to kill a small bug-like creature that is scurrying on the floor. It is revealed that the bug resembles a miniature version of himself. He squashes the bug with his shoe. However, every movement the "doodlebug" makes is later matched by the man himself, and he is later squashed by a larger version of himself. This is the first short film did by Batman fame Christopher Nolan in his younger days.Film opens with both man eyes are searching for something and title Doodlebug comes on his face.Film opens with a dark lighting apartment where a man want to kill a bug/insect (his own image)with a shoe. And he kills each bug with a determined focus(by turning off all distractions) by not answering any phone calls, switching off alarms .Each times he kills a bug with his shoe, another bigger size of the bug comes into the room.
For this movie there are so many interpretations. One is that the guy is a insane person and how the mind of an insane person thinks .Film shows insanity is most difficult thing to deal not only for the persons around him but the person himself it affects most.
Another interpreation is that how much you took care by planning your life by not falling into any distractions and eliminating problems ,but there always will be bigger problems will come into your life.Karma/destiny is much bigger than what you think,How much you want to control it ,but it always surprises you ,so watch the short film for not only for its story telling but its brilliant cinematography and captivating Background score
By Shrihari Waychal (source internet) copy paste -- The man is obsessed with his terrible past and wants to kill it. The outside world, which always rebukes and laughs over him for his failure,he wants to stop it as he is fed up of hearing that mockery that is making him weak and killing him. We live in the present ,trying to do all the foul activities ,but we forget thinking about the future consequences.. But the truth is,we can neither kill our past nor control our future in anyway.(Yes,it is obviously doable but NOLAN here has ignored those inspirations and toil that tells us we can change our future, for the time being for his 177 seconds in the movie to be very frank)
