Al Batinah International School (Arabic: مدرسة الباطنة العالمية), also known as ABIS, is a non-profit, private International Baccalaureate (IB) day school located in Sohar, Oman.[1][2] It has approximately near 400 students and 40 teaching staff. One of Oman's 34 international schools, it has been in operation since 2007. ABIS offers education from kindergarten through grade twelve and is an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).[3][4] It is jointly owned by Sohar Aluminium and OQ. The current principal of the school is Dominic Robeau.[5]
History
[edit]The school was established in 2007 by Sohar Aluminum. Then recently created, they decided to found Al Batinah International School to provide education for Omani and expatriate families moving to the area. In 2010, the school became authorized to offer the IB curriculum and was authorized to offer the inquiry-based PYP (Primary Years Programme) program of the International Baccalaureate. The IB Diploma Programme and MYP Programme (Middle Years Programme) were both added in 2013 and 2020, making ABIS an IB Continuum World School.[6][7]
Facilities
[edit]In 2015, ABIS started construction of a major expansion & refinement of its facilities that ended in 2018.[8] Since that time, the school consists of 4 ''learning centers" also known as LC's. There is one building for each learning center and different grades are in different learning centers.
